Subject: | 914 / spark plugs? |
Hi
Any one know where I can find information about which spark plugs
(brand / type) may be used in my Rotax 914?
Can only find one old SI on the Rotax data base saying something
about this issue - and that is SI-15-1997.
I have until now used Denso's X27EPR-U9, but now I have access to
plugs from NGK etc.

Subject: | Re: Fuel Flow Instrumentation |
I am very grateful for all the views expressed by Europa owners (and list readers)
regarding the Floscan transducers, on this list and in private messages.
The only conclusion I can make so far is that Floscan make transducers specifically
for aircraft and in general for boats, and anything else.
Floscan quote a range of specifications, but the principal and the design of the
transducer remains the same. The primary feature (for us and in the UK, the
PFA) being that it can not be blocked if the rotor jams. All of their products,
marine and aviation, claim the same accuracy, ie a repeatability between measurements
of 1/4% at a flow rate of 16 (US)GPH. The different models, within specific
ranges, are there to accomodate the flow range (min to max flow quoted
in US GPH)
Since PFA permit aircraft do not require certified parts and the approval is gained
by acceptance, the use of the far more expensive 200 series aviation transducer,
seems, on the face of it, to be unnecessary. And some of you have told
me that the PFA have indeed approved instalations using the marine transducer.
I'm continuing to research this, and I have approached PFA Engineering, who have
yet to respond.
Does anyone have anything further to contribute?
Regards and thanks,
Paul

Subject: | Re: remote oil press sensor |
Hi Paul,
I mounted the standard Rotax oil pressure sensor on the front of the stb
footwell connected with a standard length of Europa oil hose to the
crankcase orifice. I also trapped a 1 mm dia restrictor pellet in the line
at the engine end, just in case of a major oil leak. I have never filled
the line with oil or bled it and it still works OK.
The reason for moving it is to insulate the sensor from engine vibration,
which has caused sensors to fail on a number of engines, resulting in zero
pressure reading at the gauge with associated pilot heart failure!
I have never had one fail, so perhaps it is worth doing. I hope that
doesn't sound like the man sprinkling Tiger Repellent Powder on the streets
of London!
Best wishes,
William

Graham / William
Thanks for the postings. My reason for moving it is because the
Westach version is slightly wider than the VDO and fouls on the
cylinder head. It gives me comfort that I'm safe from Tigers as a bye
product

It would be great if there were Europa Fly In's on various dates in many different
places around the country. That would give those who are flying trips to
plan and those who are building a close by get together. If you'd like a Fly
In near you, set it up. We're sure lots of folks will come.

Subject: | 914 / spark plugs? |
Hi Gert
Up to the end of last year NGK didn't do a spark plug with the correct heat
range for the 914, unless they have introduced a specific plug I would stay
with the Denso one,

Brian,
If you can hold off for a week or two, I should have my Mod 72 package soon. I
plan to post pics and specs: length, diameter, wall thickness, etc. on my build
web site.
And a 16.5 mm reamer is 0.6496 in. or not quite 21/32 (0.65625) and 5/8 at 0.625
is too small.
Good building and great flying,

Paul and I are hoping that the Europa Fly-in catches on, in the US, thus
producing several events each year. Lots of you folks are EAA members
and attend EAA sponsored fly-in, every year. Why not add to the
calendar with a few Europa specific fly-ins (all others invited, of
course). It's a great excuse to get out and fly...

Subject: | Oil press variation |
The oil pressure on my 912 varies when cold
I "burp" the engine by hand, check the oil level and start.
The oil press goes up to 5-6 bar for 2 minutes then drops to 1 bar for 5-7
minutes and then rises to 5-6 bar where it stays.
I have changed the pressure sensor.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Will
