Are the cheaper versions Kevlar reinforced (as are the Rota replacement
versions)?

Subject: Europa-List: Rotax rubber carb flanges
Anyone with a Rotax engine over 5 years old should be considering
changing the rubber carb flanges as they have been known to split with
age. The cost of these from Rotax is rather excessive at over =A350
each. Aerosport UK sell the Mikuni version (which are effectively
identical) for under =A324. They also come with the spacer tube
preventing overtightening.

Subject: Europa-List: mod 72
While I do not mean to denigrate in any way the various approaches which
have been suggested to deal w/ the structural deficiency which mod 72 is
intended to correct, what comes up for me is an appreciation of the amount
of work which Europa04 has done to ensure the integrity of the aircraft. I'm
imagining the design calculations, the paperwork for the PFA, and testing
and the real costs associated therewith. The costs of the hardware is
negligible.
My concern is that I think the Europa design loses value if there is an
awareness in the experimental/homebuilt aircraft community that the engine
mounting frames were cracking and guys took it upon themselves to install
one or another kind of a fix of their own design. it seems to me that it
would be far more preferable for the story to be that there were some
failures in the engine mount, the problem was addressed by E04, a fix was
designed, tested, and approved, and every Europa flying has had the mod
installed.
I feel it is a huge benefit to me that E04 exists and continues to service
the design and kits sold by the predecessor company; I want to support them
to remain in business, and I don't begrudge them the 15 pounds for a couple
of sleeves.
...just my 2 cents (or 15 pounds) worth of opinion....

I would also like to put my 2 pence in , it strikes me that a lot of
members/owner don't appreciate the work that Europa 04 does and waste an
awful lot of time trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak! If you have any
doubts regarding Mod 72 why not ring Roger at E04 he won't bit!

Subject: | FAA Funding Debate |
While this may be off topic, this is a very important issue that will effect
all of us aviating on this side of the pond and needs your help and support.
Even better for this issue, is the fact that those not flying in the US can
advice us on the similar expenses that they incur while flying in their part
of the world.
Thanks for your patience

The below is something I received earlier today.
The most dire challenge to hit General Aviation since 9/11 is now upon us.
The FAA, Airlines, and White House propose to raise our already high cost of
flying.
What can I do?
Do your Homework:
Learn all you can about what is proposed and it's impact on air safety,
equal access to aviation services, higher costs for GA, reduction or Loss of
congressional oversight... The list goes on...
Go to: <http://www.aopa.org/faafundingdebate/>
http://www.aopa.org/faafundingdebate/ to learn more.
FIGHT!:
Write your Representative and Senator. Not tomorrow, Today!

Attend an EAA Meeting and an AOPA Town Hall. Bring up User Fees.
Get the media on our side. Educate them on the dangers of this plan and it's
potential impact.
Talk to your fine flying friends! Use every resource and forum you can
access to bring up the issue and spread the word that we MUST contact our
elected officials and fight the big Airlines and FAA proposal to infringe on
our access to the skies!
Lets conduct this grass roots campaign to keep aviation safe and accessible
to all Americans.
AOPA President Phil Boyer said: "This proposal is nothing more than a
cynical attempt to shift FAA costs to a different set of taxpayers, and to
take control of the agency away from Congress and put it in the hands of
unelected bureaucrats and airline executives."
EAA Vice-President of Government Relations, Doug Macnair said: "DOT and FAA
have attempted to distract from the user fee issue in their public
statements by saying that revenue from general aviation would continue to be
collected via a fuel tax, but they failed to acknowledge that the fuel tax
would be increased dramatically and a whole series of user fees would be
implemented for FAA services that today do not carry a charge."
