Hello All,=0A=0AI am considering the purchase of a completed and flying Eur opa XS. I have corresponded with the seller and exchanged information, pict ures, etc, everything looks fine so far. We are separated by several states and thus I don't have the option of driving over to see the airplane in pe rson. My remaining concern is if I can fit comfortably in the airplane. I a m 6', tall in the torso, sitting bolt upright on the floor I measure my hea d at 38". My weight is 210 lbs. I have read what I could find on this e-mai l list as well as the Internet and the concensus is that 6' - 6' 1" is abou t max height for comfort. I would appreciate any additional input from curr ent flyers / builders.=0A=0AI can't find the specific measurements of the c ockpit from seat bottom to top of the cockpit, nor am I able to find the am ount of recline the seatback has. Anyone have these or can point me to a source?=0A=0AM y previous airplane was a Lancair 320 which appears to have about the same amount of shoulder and head room as the Europa XS? Steven, I'm about the same as you in Height-6'1", 37 or 38" from butt to top of head and 230 lbs. I fit comfortably into the XS seat while flying although I had to take 1" out of the padding from my seat cushion. I have 1" of high density foam on the bottom with shaped sides. I must say there is not a lot of room over my head but enough that in light turbulence I'm not bouncing off the glass on the top. You do have an advantage over me as I wish my legs were about 1" shorter. They then would not rest upon the air duct on the side wall. Altogether I'm quite comfortable while flying although I've only flown for 2-3 hrs at a time while flying my 40 hrs off. Al Stills N625AZ Phoenix, Ariz

Hi Stephen, We have a mono-wheel XS that we have been flying for over 5 years. We keep the plane at Livermore airport, and would be glad to show it to you, and give you a chance to sit in it, or go for a flight if you like and the weather permits. regards, Terry Seaver N135TD ________________________________ From: owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Steven Janicki Sent: Tuesday, February 20, 2007 2:27 PM Subject: Europa-List: Perspective Europa XS purchase - Questions for the group Hello All, I am considering the purchase of a completed and flying Europa XS. Steven As you've realized, torso height is the issue here. You can aleviate this by sitting with your butt further forward and knees higher. I once modded an XS for a guy who was 6'5, I extended the footwells a bit and moved the rudder pedals forward, also lowered the thigh supports and made them butt shaped. I have not yet been offered a ride in this airplane ( it has been sold unfinished twice but is now flying) but on the ground it was superbly comfortable for me, (5'10 and shrinking with bitter experience and age {{;-)) You will find the Europa less unforgiving than a Lancair 320, one of the few airplanes that the nose goes up when you stall, (unless you have the big Australian tail) Ever wondered why accidents increased around 40 hours. My guess, guys with a bit of experience with their airplane starting to go for the numbers on landing? (imho and a guess.) Hi Steve - I'm 6"1" and 215 lbs, long torso and fairly wide shoulders and am fairly comfortable for up to 2 hrs. Not a lot of extra room to move around. I would like to move the rudder pedals forward a couple inches sometime but the rudder is really not needed in flight so you can stretch out one foot at a time between the pedals. My left shoulder is pushing against the door frame somewhat but is mostly below it. I will do the shoulder width mod sometime as well. I did the LA mod that lets you scoot towards the tunnel a bit to get away from the door frame but I really don't notice any discomfort for 2 hrs. I reduced the back seat pad to one inch foam and only use the one shaped butt pad not the 2nd flat pad. If your thighs are much bigger than mine, the stick movement at the flare can be limited. I can just hit the aileron stop both ways if I press into my thigh slightly. I do caution my passenger to put their right foot between the rudder pedals for landing so as not to limit right aileron travel in the flare but it has never been a problem. I have about an inch of headroom. Hope this helps - good luck! Steven, You have hit on a very sensitive subject for me. I am 6' 4" 260lbs and the biggest Europa pilot I know personally. After I mostly finished my airframe and before I purchased firewall forward and instruments, I decide to spend some quality time in the left seat with John at Europa (DUH?). I quickly decided to sell my project and start building a C-130 Hercules. After Getting a price on the C-130, I decided to try to make my Europa fit. I made many mods to help work it out so don't think just because I fit in mine you will fit in any Europa. The two areas of easiest manipulation are the lumbar support and the seat cushion thickness. I am 39" from ass in seat to the top of my head. The Europa with no cushion is 37" straight up. A thick lumbar will push your lower body forward giving more head room; that is until your knees hit the panel. While sitting, from the bottom of my shoes to my back as it rest on the seat is 51". I moved my rudder pedals 1" forward. I a lso trashed the mono wheel and elected for the conventional gear. This allowed me to cut some relief into the console and move my body more toward the center highest part of the canopy (whew). I use 1" thick temper-foam for a seat cushion and fit well enough to be comfortable for 3 hours. So I would surmise if you measure 50" or less from bottom of shoe to your back while seated and 38" or less from ass to head top while seated you will be at least as comfortable as I am. I every other way this is the best most fun aircraft for the money I can imagine. P.S. I almost forgot. If your looking at a Classic Europa, nothing I said matters because the foot well is shorter.
