If you look at: http://www.europaowners.org/WileE Page 2 There are some photos of a model servo install. Sadly WileE and Cliff are no longer with us. Also go to: http://www.sarangan.org/europa_forum/2007-03/index.html and search for aileron balance, aileron flutter, aileron servo tons of info there. Chat Later, Steved Kit A210 was unloaded off the truck yesterday. I did somewhat of an inventory and notice that the aileron had a trim tab cut out from the aileron. I found a box with R.C. Allen trim type control, but it looks like model aircraft type stuff. I could find no directions and called the old owner. He said that he copied it from another Eupora. Does anybody have any ideals on this MOD? Visit - www.EuropaOwners.org

Subject: A198 Monowheel Over Center stats & anybody flying with the
gear down and locked? This weekend I too the time to disassemble my mono gear which had been assembled a few years ago. I took some measurements. Using feeler gauges, one Port swing arm was .055" away from seating when the Starboard leg was against the stop. Doing the Trig, after grinding this down to equal seating, this provided .8 degree improvement in Over Center condition. Allowing for the taper of approximately 4 degrees in the swing arm, measuring with a balance protractor against the arm and then the shock absorber - hanging straight down, the over center condition is now 2.31 degrees. I have not measured yet with the gear reattached, but assume this will improve slightly. The corollary of the above is that the original position before grinding was 1.51 degrees. This is virtually nothing. Studying the design, if the shock absorbers were not dampening well in the reverse direction, a smack of the wheel against the ground and bounce up, would allow the rubber block to snap the gear down quickly, and pop out the over center of 1.5 degrees if there were any slop or bending in the gear retraction lever. This is particularly worrisome, as how does one check the performance of the shocks - pull down on the prop in the same way you check a tri-gear's oleo? I know it's working for a lot of people, and has the blessing of the PFA, but it sure seems marginal. I am considering locking the gear down, (which will also improve insurability) which is easily done in a variety of ways. Fairing this in would be fairly easy with a large shapely fibreglass cover. I would then operate the flaps and outriggers separately. Has anyone done this? I guess no one knows what the speed penalty is if the gear is left down in cruise! (Unless you cruise around with the flaps down all the time!) Cleve Lee A198 now in Market Harborough ... and finally getting back at it . .

This is blatant advertising so I hope nobody minds (dont think there is anything in the rulez that sayz you cant). I am looking to set up a Europa Group (monowheel) based in North Oxfordshire. Aircraft is well equipped and finished to a professional standard - best Europa kitplane at 2005 PFA rally). It is an excellent touring aircraft cruising at 120kts on only 15 litres of unleaded per hour. Airframe is realistically valued at 28,500 so shares (x2) at 9,500 but am willing to lease if you cant raise full amount (ie: 2,000 and 47 per month). Running costs work out at 85 pcm (including insurance/ hangarage) with an hourly cost of 20 per hr (including fuel and engine fund). The aircraft is hangared in a large WW2 RAF hangar and there are virtually no restrictions on flying hours. The hangar and grass airfield is available to owners 24hrs a day. Otherwise normal operational limitations and rules apply (it is primarily a gliding airfield). Ideally pilots will have 100hrs plus P1 and taildragger experience but in any event a PFA conversion course will be required (which can be easily arranged). I am advertising this opportunity elsewhere (including PFA mag) so heres your chance to grab some fast cheap flying. Only two shares will be offered so dont delay. Carl Pattinson - Tel: 07768 473222 or email carl@flyers.freeserve.co.uk This would suit a current EUROPA builder based in or around Oxfordshire who needs to maintain his flying hours or get up to speed with flying the aircraft.

Bill, Cliff and his wife were the on final landing at Oshkosh this year when, from witness accounts, he got low, slow and cross controlled, stalled, spun in just short of the runway from 200 ft and both were lost. At least that is the last I heard. For what it is worth, I've attached a photo of the safety lock I put on my gear handle. It just seemed way to easy to raise the gear by accident and as you can see, it would take a real effort to make a mistake. The pin would also help prevent the accidental retraction if placed before landing. Hope this helps, Ralph Building... The sender has included tags, so you can do more with these photos. the gear down and locked? Well you have the easy part done. Now your going to have to make a new LG12 or a new retraction lever guide plate. Any grinding on the LG08 stops really moves things around. Your flaps downs position will also need a look. When I redid my stops everything was out of whack. Chat Later, Steved

    Subject: Paint
Hey Folks, I know this has been talked to death but here goes anyway. I have decided I can fill, prime, and sand til doomsday or just paint it. I think I have gotten it reasonably smooth but have ended up with NOT a complete covering of Polyfiber UV Smoothprime in the process. I am determined to go no further with the sanding portion to remove anymore or put anymore on now that it is smooth. But will someone give me a definitive formula of primers (epoxy?) and paint combinations, including brands, potion numbers etc, that will act as a UV blocker and give me a glossy, repairable/upgradable paint job that can be color sanded (by someone else if desired) but not requirred, to get the "wet look"? I hope this makes sense. I guess in a nutshell, can I get UV protection from the finish process, not relying on a partial coat of UV smooth prime? What about the shop in Lakeland that did so many Europas? I know they preferred no pre-priming at all. What products did they use? Can anyone tell me the details of their mix? They sure made Bob Berube's plane sparkle. Cast your vote here. Troy Maynor N120EU Europa Monowheel Classic Left to finish: Paint,(some) interior, engine install, (some) wiring.
