Likewise I have to change tyres on my trigear, so any advice on
jacking a trike would be welcome.

At a guess, I'd say we still out-numbered the RVs.
Only the Chipmunk crowd seemed to be oddly well co-ordinated and
probably took top score.
Sywell had to be a success for the large proportion and scope of
PFA-types that were there.

All UK Europa Fliers and DOTHers,
I have just booked a slot for the first Regional PFA Rally at Sywell
for tomorrow, Saturday, 5th May and I was a little disappointed to note
the lack of Europas on the booking list. So come-on chaps, lets have a
good Europa representation. The weather looks better for Saturday than
Sunday.
Hope to see you all tomorrow.
Regards,
William

Whenever I need to work on the wheels, I push a suitable steel rod (not sure
about the diameter)
into the hub, and then put a jack underneath at the far end. To remove the
wheel you move it outboard next to the jack, then put a support on the
inboard side, and lower the jack. Sounds complicated but is dead simple.

Nigel, Ron, Gilles, Ira and all,
For instance I much appreciate your valuable interventions.
Using water/glycol or Evans was and still is a choice
But let's make a statement. We have the performing engine and we have the
fixed configuration with cowlings and radiators. The engine has three
cooling elements: air, oil and coolant. Oil and coolant temperatures are
regulated by air flow thru the radiators. Air flow is dependent of ducts,
speed and propeller wash. Not so simple as at a given outer temperature all
is in the limits when cruising at more then 110 knts. The discussion about
Evans or water/glycol may give a difference of about 10C. But for the same
configuration with a difference of temperature between winter and hot summer
of 40C and a take off speed of 60 knts at full power creates the problems.
With 3 liters of oil and 4 liters of coolant we have no margin and no
buffer. Until we don't find to regulate and control from the cockpit this
temperatures we canot climb at the 1000'/min rate in every season. Let us be
humble and say that the cowlings are of a very poor design. But we build an
experimental airplane and we are proud of it. I think that I can find in
Ron's approach a stimulation to continue the experiment by making several
small changes until we succeed. And for my results you still have to wait.
Kind regards,

Willie,
Using a short 6x6, on top of a hydraulic floor jack it place the 6x6
just inboard of the leg and jack up one side at a time. Never had any
problems with lifting this way...

Karel
just one further thought, you should make only one modification then
test before you make the next mod, then you have an idea which mod works
and which doesn't

Subject: | surging engine on take-off |
Yesterday taking off, the engine surged as the turbo kicked in it went
up to 5700 RPM then dropped back into the 4800 range. I tried several
runs but aborted the take-off as it continues to surge. Checked the
prop governor and it checked out as functioning correctly.; Took the
cowl off and the turbo arm seems to cycle correctly when the master
turned on and the throttle cycled. Tied the plane down and ran it up to
5700 rpm. It did not surge at all.
Any idea? I have not tried to fly it again yet.

Ken
Changes in boost can be often caused by basic engine problems. I would check
Manifold leaks or restrictions
Fuel system
Air pressure hoses and connections including the small vacuum lines and
connectors
TCU and waste gate
Again, I would carefully check the basics, chances are the turbo itself is
OK.
Good luck
Jerry

Subject: | Europa Widen Shoulder width door mod. |
Due to the increase in the fuselage/door mod width, has anyone seen a drop
in airspeed? Or is the change not enough to make a difference?
Obviously, the pro's are a wider cockpit which will make the shoulders
happy, and hence the passengers and pilots too. Also, maybe there might be
less rubbing on the window.
What are the cons?
