As part of the annual service we check compression and it is OK. Additionally there has been no significant change in the climb performance when we do the yearly flight check (about 800fpm) As far as we can determine the engine is delivering full power and last weekend I did a static power run and achieved 5,200RPM which is what we would have expected. I presume you are responding to the VP prop thread as "oil pressure" wouldnt change with loss of compression (there would be an increase in oil consumption though - which there isnt). In any event our sender is over reading (80psi) which if true would indicate a blockage or restriction. This wold be accompanied by a sharp increase in temperature (due to reduced cooling) - and then something nasty (like a siezure). Anyway the new sender arrived yesterday so hopefully the oil pressure issue will be resolved soon. The sender was almost identical to the VDO one except its made in Hungary. Theres a warning in the packet to say that they wont guarantee the sender unless it is remotely mounted from the engine (apparently they are extensively used in modern motorcycles) Regards, Carl Pattinson. ----- Original Message ----- From: "R.C.Harrison" Sent: Wednesday, May 23, 2007 2:34 PM Subject: RE: Europa-List: Oil Pressure Sender Hi! Carl Forgive me but me'thinks you need to do a fully fledged compression leak down test. My Jabiru had lost major chunks of power all completely without my noticing. Loss of power through lost compression happens so gradually you don't notice until the events you relate. Don't forget the 25% loss maximum per cylinder is the absolute. ie:- 80:80 is perfect compression and 60:80 is STOP FLYING. We talked to Andy and filed a little off FL3 and even opened up the slot in OR5 (with Andy's OK). Our outrigger still didn't seem to retract fully but we flew anyway. Now during our rebuild we fitted new OR5 to have the proper slot length and spent a lot of time fiddling with the outrigger assembly. We finally noticed that OR4 is hitting OR6 which prevents the outrigger from fully retracing. OR6 is not symmetrical. We found that flipping it over so short end (length from hole to end of block) faces aft gave us a little more movement of OR4 and results in the outrigger coming up properly. We suppose you could file some off OR4 but the manual cautions against this (page 9-10 Issue 2). Fig 15 on page 9-9 shows the relationship of OR4 and OR6 with the outrigger retracted. I was starting to get worried if I was doing something wrong, but I am glad to hear this from you. --- "h&jeuropa" wrote: > > > Andrew, > > We had the same problem when we started flying last year. On my drawing this is 2 metres from the root spar pin bush. If anyone has one they could email or post to me I would be very grateful and it would save a lot of work trying to transcribe it from the wing. I need it to get the trailer wing supports made. Keith Hickling, New Zealand. I have made trailer supports for the outboard part of the wing by moulding directly over the finished wing - so you get a snug fit. What I did was put the wing leading edge up, cover it in a polythene sheet, then stretched some thick foam (a camping sleep mat) over the leading edge, and then laid up several layers of glassfibre over that, about 10 inches wide, and about 16 inches back each side from the leading edge. Once set, I removed it, trimmed it, cut it into two bits 5 inches wide, and this then formed a perfectly shaped insert to go into the trailer U shaped bracket. Then, put the wings on the trailer with the new inserts loosley in place, and then glassed these into place on the trailer. So, I ended up with a wing support that exactly matched the wing profile. I have used it once, about 10 miles, and the signs are that it works far better than the sling as supplied with the trailer.
