Hi! All Sign of times ahead ? My brand new 914 will not stop? (except by fuel switch) Any ideas ..except external mag kill wires, switches and shieldings? All external wires and switches have been proven OK. Arthur from North Wales says someone recently in the USA had a similar problem? BTW thanks for trailer responses I believe I'm fixed up from Lincoln. Regards Bob Harrison G-PTAG Robt.C.Harrison

Dear Karel, Yes in Suomi we like to reinvent things and make them better. Like a phone and the result is history like www.nokia.com (and it is not created to attract attention only you know!). Despite that I have to mention Thomas S & Co are not Finnish. There are also some other people on the ball thinking by their own brains. By the way you have on your Europa sides golden strips pointing straight to the sun. What a hot spot! Aren=C2=B4t you worried one day the fuselage joint will be melt and you have a canoe stage again during your flight ;) Sorry I forgot those little dark strips, pics, stars, letters, numbers etc mean nothing... When installing a Rotax, I usually check the spark (and absence of) when turning the engine over during "oiling up" before first start. All Mono-operators I have an original main tyre which is 435216 Titan Turf Glide 8.00-6 with 4 plies. It is propably not aircraft quality but I have been happy with it. Only problem is it is a bit too broad and it has a little contact to brake when landing (I have overpressurized it). I wanna update it to new slightly narrower one. What do you think what is the best choice in quality in market? My factors are first of all safety and handling, not so much price and durability. Thanks, Raimo

Greetings team, Someone in the Ximango community passed along this link for exhaust manifold coating to prevent corrosion and I thought it might be of interest to some folks here. I'm told it cost about $140 for a 912S manifold. If nothing else, it sure looks nice. _http://www.jet-hot.com/Pages/coatings.html_ (http://www.jet-hot.com/Pages/coatings.html) Regards, John Lawton Whitwell, TN (TN89) N245E - Down 2 weeks now because of a $12 ignition rotor that nobody has in stock! ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

Anyone that has a dark color on their plane as a secondary color and not a stripe, can joke all they want. I saw what went into fixing N914XS and I can tell you it wasn't funny knowing I had been flying acro in an airplane that could have at the least had the power plant hanging by half the firewall halfway thru a loop, or at the worst losing the firewall forward. You can't reinvent TG. But you CAN reflow epoxy at elevated temps. At about 200F aeropoxy WILL start to soften. You CAN remove redux with a hairdryer. And a dark painted composite plane WILL deform sooner or later. If you think it works on you're aircraft that's fine, but don't go recommending it to somebody else. If you cant keep you're hand on it in the sun then it's too hot. I can't believe so many are willing to kick the devil in the gonads. For those of you UK Europa pilots (unlike me) who have a Europa legal to fly at the moment I have a suggestion for a DOTH fly-in. As it stands I have a free day on Monday 6th August (and possibly the 7th in case of bad weather) to host a DOTH fly-in at Lydeway. The idea on arrival would be to walk up to my house (about 20 minutes away) and have a BBQ in the garden. I have yet to check this out with Cathy at the moment to ensure it doesn't conflict with anything else we might be doing (this email is coming to you from Denver). Assuming the weather is good enough could I have an idea of how many would like to attend to decide whether to keep time aside for this event? Regards Nigel Charles

Bob I would check your grounding wires again and again, insure all are connected properly. The engines are all run tested at the factory before delivery so odds are something in your wiring is not correct. Since there are two independent circuits, A fires the top plugs and B fires the bottom plugs both of those would have to be defective from the factory (if your engine continues to run smoothly when your grounded switches are on.) I think you will eventually find it in your wiring. John I saw an entire 912 exhaust system coated by Jethot when I attended the Rotax maintenance class in Canada. They claim it reduces heat under the cowling but they don't necessarily advocate its use... I don't know all the facts but it does look very nice and it may help with the overall cooling issues. Check Jethot website they have some interesting claims. In order for the extra cooling to be effective the inside of the exhaust is also coated which brings up the concern of material flaking off which would not be good for the 914 turbo blades! I decided against it for that reason but 912 guys might benefit from it. You can't reinvent TG. But you CAN reflow epoxy at elevated temps. At about 200F aeropoxy WILL start to soften. You CAN remove redux with a hairdryer. Hi Willie >Sorry to be dim but where is Lydeway and where are its details published?< The strip is in Lockyear's guide and the AFE guide. It also features in Navbox Proplan flight planning software. However for full details see the attachment to this email. Feel free to come back with any questions you might have. >There's half a chance I could be there on Monday, but not Tuesday. < OK no problem. Just look out for another email from me confirming or cancelling nearer the time. Regards Nigel

Subject: Re: Request for information - play in tailplane drive -
Loctite Roger, When I did my annual, this month, I found a quarter inch slop in the starboard tailplane. Not wanting to rip everything apart, I decided to use the Loc-tite method. What I did was to spray out the parts with automotive choke cleaner, being careful not to get any on the paint. Then I blew it out with compressed air and allowed it to air dry for a hour or two. I then started saturating the joint with Permatex's version of 603. It's the wicking type (green) found in most automotive parts stores. After I was satisfied that I'd gotten as much in as I possibly could, I let it set for 24 hours. Checking the joint by twisting as hard as I could, nothing moved. I've got 6+ hours on the repair with probably 10 landings and no movement at all. I check the tailplanes every time I do pre and post flights. They are tight - no movement. My bird is a tri-gear with steel spring front suspension. Flights have included 45-50 degree turns and other 2+ G maneuvers... Hope this helps, Jeff - Baby Blue 306 hrs Roger Bull wrote: > > > > *As part of the ongoing investigation into play in the tailplane > drive line, we at E04 have carried out testing on a sample torque > tube and TP9, using Loctite. Hi! David, Gilles, Jerry. Thanks for your responses. I now have two new mag kill wires direct from the mag connectors to the mag groundings (just to prove it isn't my wires or switches) The plugs still are sparking? An Electrical Contrator also checked it all out and proved my wires and switches. The dealer is beginning to mutter "damaged boxes" however I haven't any reason to think I damaged anything? Don't you just hate when this happens? Lastly I would insert an alligator clip (with connecting wire to another clip) into the grounding Connection right at the module insuring a good connection with that bullet connector (That is inside that protective sleeve) then connect the other end to the manifold or other handy metal engine part. Forget about switches for now. Maybe you've tried this already but if you do this and get spark, well then I would suspect the wire at the ignition module, could you have pulled on the connector bullet and pulled it loose from the wire? Usually when you hear of ignition modules being defective, it causes the engine not to start or to run rough not your situation. Good luck.
