I am one of those guys who goes with the adage of "well if those guys can do it I certainly can". Jim B I will probably give you a call to get some more detail on the joint you described with the "recess". If anyone else can expand on the joint that gets the mess together in a structurally sound manner please do so. Now for the real question. Ever since Europa Lakeland went away with John Hurst I had blown off the idea of getting OEM parts and just figured I would fab every thing myself. A fuel tank would be kind of tricky, though I do have a buddy who is a real artist when it comes to welding aluminum (or aluninium for you other guys). Has anyone done this? Making the seat back 2 to 3 inches higher with a higher tank would give better back support with an increase in capacity. In any case does the tank have to be ordered from the UK or is Custom Flight Creations down in Florida actively selling parts and aircraft? Thanks, Steve Steve Hagar hagargs@earthlink.net ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 07:30:07 AM PST US From: John & Paddy Wigney Subject: Europa-List: Re : Europa windscreen / LP Aero Plastics Hi Mike, LP Aero Plastics are a good company and I can recommend them. I have no trouble with optical distortion on mine. However, you may be out of luck with the brown tint; I believe LP Aero's tints are grey and green. Cheers, John Mooresville, North Carolina ORIGINAL MESSAGE :- From: "Mike Gamble" Subject: Europa-List: Europa windscreen Thanks Fred, I'm presently in contact with Europa (UK) to see if they can help but it may well be necessary to order from LP Aero as screens are no longer made in UK. I believe the US screens are only produced with smokey grey tint or no tint at all which is a bind as I have already fitted the brown tint version in the doors. By the way I have tried 2 screens so far and both have the same horizontal faults in the perspex which distort the view when the screen is angled in its proper position in its frame. (The view is fine when viewed at right angles to the surface). It is interesting and a little surprising that nobody else reports anything other that minor areas of distortion with their screens; maybe my 2 came from the same bad batch. ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 03:02:50 PM PST US From: "Karl Heindl" Subject: Re: Europa-List: Woodcomp Woes Hi Dave, Just going through my emails after my trip to California and BC. Jiri went on holiday about two weeks ago. My motor burned out in the middle of nowhere, somewhere in Wyoming, but response was immediate to my cry for help on how to adjust the pitch manually, but then he handed the problem to Iva (his secretary ?) because he was off on holiday. He left her no details, cosequently she sent the wrong motor to my friend's address in L.A.. It took another two days to get another, this time correct, motor. Iva stayed late on aFriday evening waiting for my email giving her an address for the motor to be sent to. They used FedEx Priority for a very fast service, which must have cost a small fortune. But it doesn't make me feel any better about a failing motor, with the prop locked in minimum pitch, at high altitude and 35 degree temperatures.
