Hi! Duncan/Fred I think I recall that Vance makes 5mm dia. And 3mm dia. Balls Also that he sent me three of the small ones (one for good measure ...pardon the pun!) for about USD $ 10 plus postage. Not a really big outlay ! but about 10 years ago. Seems to be a bit of debate about his latest e-mail address though. Graham Singleton is advising his new address is :- nostromo56@tx.rr.com I've just Googled "Vance Atkinson Fuel Sight Gauges" and there is a host of pages recommending his gauges. However Initially I Googled "Fuel Floating Ball Level Gauges" or thereabouts and came up with an AAIU Formal Accident Report (Not Vances Gauge) about such a float ball gauge where the ball had stuck and given a false reading but probably due to aging of the tubes discolouring the real meniscus level of the fuel couldn't be seen either! So my points about stainless wire wool or some such facility to stop the ball becoming stuck at the top is quite relevant. Of course it's not possible to weight the damn thing otherwise it will sink. I used the 3mm diameter one in the standard Europa plastic fuel tube. I suppose a cut-up carb float would do it too. The difficulty is colouring it, and it staying that colour in Mogas. Rgds., Duncan

Greetings all, Just wanted to echo my sentiments regarding the Rough River gathering. Susan and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting new friends and reacquainting ourselves with others we'd previously met at Sun-n-Fun and at our fly in at TN89 in 2004. Rough River State Park is an ideal place for such a gathering. I don't know of a better facility anywhere east of the Mississippi. Susan got some great shots of our, uh, er, "formation" fly by. She's trying to get them sorted out before she departs for Colorado with her mother on Wednesday and I've asked her to burn them to a CD so that I can distribute them to anyone who'd care to have copies. Several of the pictures of our fly-by can be enlarged enough to see the faces of the pilots. That new Sony SLR she has is nothing sort of amazing! It was tough to leave at the end of the day and I wish we'd have stayed, but life sometimes gets in the way or even the best made plans. We arrived back at TN89 right at dark. Ten minutes later and I'd have had to go somewhere else and wait for morning since I neglected to leave my runway lights set up so I could turn them on when I arrived. Kudos' to Paul, Jeff and anyone and everyone else who made this event happen. Mighty fine job, guys! Can't wait to do it again! Just to plant a seed, fall is coming and IMHO that is a fine time to visit the panhandle of Florida for some shrimp. How about a "Drop of the Hat" fly out rendezvous, American style? Gulf Shores? Pensacola? I can taste those Gulf shrimp now......... Regards, John Lawton Whitwell, TN (TN89) N245E - Flying - 105.5 hours http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

Trouble is, there are so many you'll want to see them all and the files are too big to send efficiently via e-mail, even compressed. If anybody wants a copy of the disc I'd be happy to mail it to you. Anybody who wants one, send me your snail mail address to my e-mail and I'll send you a copy. Just to echo everyone else, the Rough River Fly-in was great! It included flying Europas (three monos, three tri-gears & a conventional gear/ 914s, 912Ss & a Jabiru), and builders in all stages from "just got the kit" to "in paint". Can't wait 'til next year & hoping for some North American DOTHs in the meantime. If you didn't make it, put Labor Day weekend 2008 on your calendar NOW! Instead, it's based on a sort of lookup-table of situations versus control inputs. Thus its behaviour is only reasonably realistic in the parts of the envelope where the programmers have noted that for the particular airframe in question the aircraft behaves in a certain way for a given starting configuration and pilot input. It's a great arcade game, and possibly a reasonable (IFR) procedural practice tool, but it's not built on the most appropriate underpinnings for a serious simulator. regards Rowland -- | Rowland Carson PFA #16532 http://home.clara.net/rowil/aviation/ | 800 hours building Europa #435 G-ROWI e-mail <rowil@clara.net>

For those of you looking for something to keep the sun off most of the plane and the occasional rain. I purchased a Kelty large sunshade, its light weight and collapses down to about 30 inches by 6 inches in diameter. You will also note my bird Chaser on top of the prop, keeps the pesky guys off a nice perch!

Hello Bob, Italy is great fun to fly. Look out for some Fly-In, e.g. by the Italian homebuilder organization "Federazione C.A.P." and (try to - not always that easy, hard to believe, eh?) communicate with the local pilots. Find some links and information on http://www.experimental.ch/content/view/101/23/ ... For some a slight disadvantage - pure VFR (no comms...) requires you to stay below 1000 ft/GND always. Otherwise, just contact the local radar - no problems for you anyway. Most military trained controllers - helpful and nice. Then - avoid big commercial traffic airports in Italy. Plenty of alternate neat places - and some private fields to drop in. Other places like Isola d'Elba, Ferrara, Firenze, or Siena are a must to see, regardless of some taxes to expect. In case you intend to fly to/from Switzerland - do NOT clear customs in Italy unless required (e.g. to head south or southeast over the Adriatic Sea or the Mediterranean Sea. Select alternate Schengen regulatory airfields, e.g. Dornbirn in Austria - from/to there you can head south/north over Switzerland again (nice trip - and not to high mountains!) and avoid the regulated airspace around Milano to the west and Bergamo to the east. I hope that helps you planning the next trips. Fly safe! Regards, -Kurt. Posting again what I thought was forwarded already.....so now here's some pictures too. Hi All, :D We just returned from the drive up to Rough River, the First Annual US Europa Fly-in. What a perfect weekend! There were 7 Europas in attendance and 28 nice Europa folks in all. The choice of this location was great and the weather perfect. I have never seen a state park with such nice amenities. It had a nice 3200ft runway. Just a short walk away was a lakeside lodge complete with a very good and reasonably priced restaurant. They had a pool, golf course, campground, marina, cottages, and a picnic and beach area. Donna and I got a ride with Jeff B.and Jeff R. in their beautiful trigears. I especially enjoyed the "formation" flight, flying right seat in "Gold Rush". I will be posting a bunch of pix tomorrow on the gallery page in the forum watch for it. Can't wait till next year.
