Bob et al,
I just checked my bill from Elba and the landing fee was just 1.29
Euro's. Not bad eh!
However, the take off was also 1.29. Then there was parking at 12.40,
airport service charges of 15.49, international passenger boarding fee
of 8.01, additional passenger tax of 2.50 and another 5.16 for filing a
flight plan, all plus 20% tax. And avgas was 2.74 / litre (compared with
about 1.75 in France). However Elba is a beautiful island and well
recommended despite the costs.

You mean when we landed there on the first 6 nations we needn't have

Sounds too good to be true after that experience ?
What about the exorbitant charges?

Hi!
Slight correction to my message below .....the turnround must include
them having the strut overnight to test for leaks after the re-gassing.
They charge GBP 12.50 plus vat per strut plus return carriage, and
accept credit card details by 'phone.

Bob - you might try Draco of Bidford, who made the custom gas springs
for my trailer ramp. Seems likely that if they can make them from
scratch, they should be able to pump up a used one!

There is indeed a Europa model for the X-Plane simulator.
One may download it from www.x-plane.org. It is in the
version 8/homebuilts directory.
You probably need to sign up for a free membership to have download

For those of you looking for something to keep the sun off most of the plane and
the occasional rain. I purchased a Kelty large sunshade, its light weight and
collapses down to about 30 inches by 6 inches in diameter. You will also note
my bird Chaser on top of the prop, keeps the pesky guys off a nice perch!

We are now home after attending the first annual RR Europa Flt-In. This event
drew the largest gathering of Europa's at a single location, totaling seven,
in North America.
With attendees arrived from as far away as South Florida, Southern Ontario, Long
Island, Louisiana, Michigan,Wisconsin, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee,
Pennsylvania, and Georgia I can say a good time was had by all.
I would like to thank Paul for putting this all together and the location is an
excellent spot for aviators. While we were there, every morning there were several
aircraft that flew into RR for either breakfast or dinner. The food was
very inexpensive and all you could eat and the accommodations were very nice.
Our room over looked the lake and was very pleasant when sitting on our porch.
Bobbi and I had an excellent time, enjoyed meeting everyone and look forward to
next year when we will have an even larger gathering of Europa's in an effort
to break the current North American record.
Thanks again

Some time ago Airmaster provided them to keep water from entering the prop.
They have since come up with changes to do the same. You might check with
Airmaster to see if they still have them available. I continue to use mine
even though I have made the modifications to my prop, "belt and suspenders."

Subject: | ICRA rant off topic |
I realise this is off the topic - if not applicable to aviators and
builders.
Somehow, I have inherited an asinine program from ICRA. This outfit is based
in UK - so you British-based readers are personally responsible.........
It is my bounden duty to research and digest the causes of aircraft
accidents. These provide the answer (usually) for one of two alternatives:
(a) "there, but for the Grace of God, go I" - that is, I might have done the
same - oh-oh
(b) "that's not me" - the man was a fool, I wouldn't have done that (right
or wrong)
One of my sources (and an excellent one at that) is the UK Aircraft
Accident Investigation Board - a long-standing and valuable preventive
source.
When I seek out the bulletins,
aaib.dft.gov.uk/publications/bulletins/May_2007.cfm, for instance, I am then
presented with a choice of particular events, or a compendium of preliminary
remarks prior to formal investigation, when I opt for a specific report,
this stupid ICRA program cuts me out - perhaps it's bad for my id.
Id idn't.

Just wondering....
On the post regarding the FS02 for the sight gauge, someone mentioned that the
redux in the fuel breaks down over time.
Considering that the Singleton fuel fittings mod calls for reduxing the finger
strainers to the fittings, is it possible that this will fail over time and leave
the strainers rolling around in the bottom of the tank?
Just wondering....
Thanks,
Dan

Subject: | Re: Redux in Fuel |
Dan,
I noticed the same post and can't help but wonder when the build manual
also calls for redux'ing the strainers and scavenge pipes to the
standard fittings in the tank bosses...I've gone on (the perhaps
incorrect) assumption that redux was impervious to fuel (including
various formulations of autogas).

Fred
Last spring when I inspected mine (7 years in fuel) they were fine.

Hi! Dan.
My seat back gauge used redux and hasn't deteriorated. It did leak but
only where it was bonded to a plastic tube. I smothered it with some
silicone sealant and it has held, unlike my main filler pipe which chose
today to pop off the silly short connector pipe to the main tank, after
having been dried out for a year it has now gone porous having stood in
some fuel!
BTW spec for fixing the original finger filters were bonded in place
with redux to stand in fuel for ever !

Just wondering....
On the post regarding the FS02 for the sight gauge, someone mentioned
that the redux in the fuel breaks down over time.
Considering that the Singleton fuel fittings mod calls for reduxing the
finger strainers to the fittings, is it possible that this will fail
over time and leave the strainers rolling around in the bottom of the
tank?
Just wondering....
Thanks,
Dan

I side fully with mentioned comments about Rough River. Great time with
great folk and great flying machines, well at least 8.
Arguably the best flying machine to grace us, pic attached.

A favorite poem comes to mind:
Symbolic creature bird in flight
Are you given to reckon beauty, taste delight
Or do you stare with unseeing eyes
At colorless unchanging skies
May I presume to join your clouded space
Soar the soft breeze, note eternal change
Gaze with you on golden days
And add my grateful sight to your trusting airy ways
AIR LIFT
