Do you run a lot of 100LL? If you run 100LL do you run Alcor or TCP? Did you run differential compression test, how was it? What type of prop you have, is it CS or pilot adjustable? You can check the turbo blade rotation by carefully inserting a 12 point socket wrench into the turbo after spraying the bearing with Mouse Milk or similar lubricant. I think the size wrench is 10mm but not positive. That solved my problem. Gentle is the word and if all else fails you can send the turbo to Lockwood. Did you make sure the potentiometer setting are (still) correct. Redo the pot setting operation with your laptop. While you'e at it, remember to check the TCU parameters during operation. Detailed info in the 914 manuals. After that, apart from obvious problems, you may start to suspect some mechanical failure. Hi Herve, Similar situation we had last year on the German amateur builder meeting in Oerlinghausen with the G-GBXS (Andy Draper). When he gave full power for take-off, suddenly the engine reduced rev. The reason was pitting material (aluminium) inside of the carburettor housing. I'm not quite sure where this was coming from: Mogas or Avgas. I guess Avgas. One of this stuff is corroding the alu-housing of the carburettor. When Andy was giving full throttle there was an increase of petrol flow and this was lifting up a small piece of corroded aluminium, which closed the orifice. It was taking some hours to solve this problem. Discribing EXACTLY when the problem occurs may help find the problem. Eg. start of ground roll after release of brakes, 6.4 seconds after going to full power....... etc etc. knowing if a fault is predictable and repeatable is half the battle of finding it. Given the wealth of knowledge that seems to be behind this list i would bet someone has seen simmilar. I had a Tommahawk that did a simmilar thing, passed run up tests fine, but loss of power on take off, turned out to be a bent push rod for one of the exhaust valves. craig 7:29 PM ________________________________ Message 9 _____________________________________ Time: 11:05:23 PM PST US From: "craig bastin" Subject: RE: Europa-List: Fwd: turbo problem?
