Subject: [Please Read] Why I Have A Fund Raiser...
Dear Listers, Each year I like to explain why I have a Fund Raiser and also take the opportunity to express why I think the List Services here provide a superior experience over the commercial equivalents. I use the List Fund Raiser each year to offset the costs involved with running a high performance email list site such as this one. With the annual support from the List members through the PBS-like Fund Raiser, I have found I can run the entire site without having to inflect any of the members with those annoying banner ads flashing up all the time trying to sell little-blue-pills or other garbage nobody wants or needs. From the comments I've received over the years regarding the Lists, the great majority of the members really appreciate the non-commercialism of my List systems and don't mind my 'go-team-go' banter once a year during November to encourage members to support the Lists. I believe that the Lists services that I provide here offer many benefits over the commercial equivalents in a number of ways. The first feature I believe to be significant is that you cannot receive a computer v*rus from any of these Lists directly. Each incoming message is filtered and dangerous attachments stripped off prior to posting. I also provide a Photo and File Share feature that allows members to share files and bitmaps with other members and everyone can be assured that these files will be prescanned for any sort of v*rus before they are posted. More recently, I have enabled limited posting of a number of file formats including pictures and PDFs. Another very important feature of this system in my opinion is the extensive List Archives that are available for download, browsing, and searching. The Archives go all the way back to the very beginning of each List and with the very fast Search Engine, the huge size of some of the Archives is a non-issue in quickly finding the data you're looking for. And added just a couple of years ago is the new Email List Forum that allows members who prefer the Web BBS-style of List interaction. The beauty of the new List Forums is that they contain the exact same content that is distributed via email. Messages posted via email are cross-posted to the respective Forum and vice versa. The Forums also allow for another convenient method of sharing pictures and other files (http://forums.matronics.com ). Additionally, added recently is the List Wiki that allows members to build their own "Online List Encyclopedia" of sorts, documenting various aspects of their project for all to share ( http://wiki.matronics.com ). I've been running email Lists and services under the matronics.com domain since about 1989 starting with RV-List and 30 guys I knew and who where also building RVs. It has grown into nearly 70 different aviation-related Email Lists and an associated web site that receives over 34,000,000 hits each year!! Additionally, the List Email system forwarded well over 77,000 postings last year, accounting for an unbelievable 33,000,000 (yes, that's 33 MILLION) email messages delivered to Matronics List subscribers! I think there's a lot of value in supporting a service that has gone the long haul and is still providing and improving a high quality service all _without any advertising budget_! I have to admit running these Lists is a labor of love and I hope it shows in the quality of the experience that you receive when you get a List Email Message, Search the Archives, use the List Browser, or surf the Forums and Wiki sites. The Lists will be here for a long time to come. If you just want to lurk a while for free, that's great and I encourage you to do so. If you use, appreciate, and receive value from these Lists, then please support them during the Annual List Fund Raiser! List Contribution Web Site: http://www.matronics.com/contribution Thank you, Matt Dralle Matronics Email List Administrator

Hi Troy, We tried to find piano wire to fit in the Europa supplied housings but were unable to make that work. We purchased piano wire from McMaster but it comes rolled in a 6" diameter coil and we were unable to get the wire straight enough to work in the housings. So we purchased Bouden cables from ACS, PN 05-15500. To connect to the carbs & throttle housing we used conduit adjusters from Lockwood PN BR03K. Had to drill them out to fit the ACS cable but the system works very nicely. Also lubed the Bouden cable assemblies with graphite lube. Eric Trombley had a post on the forum several years ago on how he did this. Jim & Heather Butcher Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=147464#147464

    1. Even though PPD nowhere refers to Rotax it is not necessarily a coincidence that the width of the Gemini100 is to the millimeter identical to that of the Rotax 912/914: 576 mm. Compared to Rotax 912: depth is 31 mm less (912 starter motor sticking out), height below propellor axis is 18 mm less, height above propellor axis 12 mm more. Compared to Rotax 914: depth and height below/above propellor axis is less by several centimeters. I wonder whether the engine attach point locations may just happen to be identical to those of Rotax. 2. Gemini125 (turbo) may be more fuel-efficient than Gemini100. 3. Battery weights may halve before too long. There seems to be quite rapid development of safe high current lithium-ion batteries. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A123Systems There are competitors. All in all I am hopeful. Maybe the slowness of my build will acquire a good reason after all. Cheers, Jan de Jong #461

Hi, Trying to decide whether to fit Mod 67 or not. I had a sit in a standard XS earlier this year and recall thinking that I was definitely going to fit the Hi-Top but I can't remember thinking that the cockpit was too narrow. Has anyone got any pictures of the finished article that they could post on the board, or to me? I had a search on the gallery but can't find any. Any other comments would be good too. I guess it's a 30mm improvement in total but only 15mm on the pilot's side. Thanks, Phil Visit - www.EuropaOwners.org

Hi Jim, Wow, a bit of a scare on the boat. However we are really pleased it turned out to be something easily explainable if not so forgivable. We both hope that no damage was sustained in its loose meanderings. If not then it proves how easy it is to get undocked!! We had no knowledge of the Alligator Alley closure. We drove down toward Naples and made good time so decided to follow the 41 to Miami instead. We have always enjoyed that route better than the highway. I am not even sure that it takes any longer either (at least in daylight). We had a good flight home (First Class) and were met at Heathrow by Helen. Somewhat predictably the weather here is horrible, cold, misty, grey and gloomy. We have already had an inch of rain since our return. One glitch on our way home was losing one of our bags on the Alamo bus. As usual being rushed off by the driver managed to leave one bag on board. Alamo of course have not found it so I guess we have to consider it gone. Not too much of value in it fortunately but we will miss some of the little Christmas presents we bought and all of Sue=92s cross stitching. I guess it is part of the cost of six weeks fun and relaxation. Today Sue has spent her time sorting the mess made by an invasion of mice during our absence. I had to dismantle clean and re assemble the furnace since the air supply to the burner had been blocked by another mouse nest. Urghhhhhhhh!!! Many thanks again for your hospitality and look forward to hearing of your Europa progress. Pete & Sue _____ From: owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of jimpuglise@comcast.net Sent: 19 November 2007 12:55 Subject: RE: Europa-List: Europa Owners in Central Florida Peter- Hope you got over to Miami OK. We heard that Aligator Alley was closed for several hours Sunday. That is always the problem with that piece of road. If there is a severe accident, it really fowls things up for a long time. I got up Sunday morning and looked out the window and the boat was gone. I panicked and called the cops, sure it had been stolen. About 15 minutes later, I saw it tied at the dock about 3 houses down on the west side of the canal. If you will remember, we came in 1/2 hour past low tide. I lifted the boat only high enough to get everything out and situate it in the lift. Apparently, at high tide it just drifted out. A neighbor saw it near the turn at the end of the canal and was able to jump from the dock at the end of the canal to the boat. He and his wife pulled it back to their dock and tied it. Now that I think about it, under maratime law, he could claim the boat. Really makes me feel stupid. I was also able to cut that lock off easily and have replaced them and have extra keys in the house. This is quite a learning experience, and I learn slowly. Glad noone was injured while we were out.&nb sp;&nb sp; Jim -------------- Original message -------------- From: "pjeffers@talktalk.net" <pjeffers@talktalk.net> > > > Hi John, My wife and i are in Englewood till the 17th November. But it wouldn't be a simple dropin anyway. Maybe a UK builder and/or E2004 will take the lead if and when. Further on the subject of lightweight batteries: https://s.p10.hostingprod.com/@voltphreaks.com/ssl/catalog/ Not so cheap as yet, but available... Jan de Jong

Question: When you reduce friction on the throttle with solid piano wire, will the carb springs snap the throttle to full bore? (as per Europa Service Bulletin #7) I can see that solid wire can reduce the possability of kink (bulge) near throttle, but "when" one solid cable breaks at the throttle termination, is the spring going to be able to overcome friction of solid cable and open to full bore? Someone a while back mentioned he used Motorcycle clutch cable, and it would allow a quite good push without kinking. My experiance with solid wire cables (lawnmowers, snow blowers, go carts and mini bikes and manual choke cables for automobiles), is terminations tend to eventually fail without warning. On the other hand clutch cables have pretty much proven to be very reliable. Of course a 2 cable per carb push / pull would probably be a winner! Ron Parigoris

Check what the race car people use, there are some interesting twisted metal tape cables that are very low friction, and pushj pull Graham rparigor@suffolk.lib.ny.us wrote: > > Hi Jim > > "So we purchased Bouden cables from ACS, PN 05-15500.
