Subject: | Make Sure You're Listed! List of Contributors Published |
Dec 1!
Dear Listers,
The List of Contributors (LOC) is just around the corner! On December 1st I post
a list of everyone that so generously made a Contribution to support the Lists.
Its my way of publicly thanking everyone that took a minute to show their
appreciation for the Lists.
As a number of people have pointed out in their Contribution comments, these Lists
seems at least as valuable of a building/flying/recreating tool as a typical
your magazine subscription! And how interactive is a magazine, after all?
Won't you take minute and assure that your name is on the upcoming LOC? Tell others
that you appreciate the Lists. Making a Contribution to support the Lists
is fast and easy using your Visa, MasterCard, or Paypal account:
http://www.matronics.com/contribution
Or, by dropping a personal check in the mail to:
Matronics / Matt Dralle
PO Box 347

(Please include your email address on the check!)
I would like to thank everyone that has so generously made a Contribution thus
far during this year's List Fund Raiser! Remember that its YOUR support that keeps
these Lists running and improving! Don't forget to include a little comment
about how the Lists have helped you!
Thank you!

Subject: | Monowheel trailer ramp hinge. |
I discovered by chance that the lower half of the ramp hinge on my
monowheel trailer was badly fractured and that only one remaining lug
was operational. Had that failed I dread to think of the consequences.
This part of the hinge is out of sight on the underside of the wheel
well and can only be checked with a mirror. I suggest that others who
use the monowheel trailer would be well advised to check their ramp
hinges.
Much to my surprise and delight the factory have the hinges in stock and
have promised me an immediate dispatch of a replacement hinge.

Subject: | Europa Aircraft - Service Bulletin 15 |
Service Bulletin 15 requires application of Loctite 603 (after degreasing)
to the surface of TP4 in certain places.
My aircraft, serial 265, was built according to a Manual dated January 1996.
Chapter 24, page 24-3, required an inspection panel of 4" circumference at
the rear of the fuselage, and that is what I built into my aircraft.
Can anyone suggest how I can carry out SB 15 through this 4" hole, which is
of course reduced in internal diameter by the tabs that hold the retaining
screws? There is no way that I can reach TP4 and its fittings, even with my
very skinny arms.
I could, of course, climb into the fuselage, lying on multiple cushions, etc
- but I doubt if I would ever get out again! I had quite enough trouble
doing that when I did Mod 70 a few years ago.
How are other owners with 4" inspection holes carrying out this SB?
I know some aircraft have 5" holes there - including one here at Shobdon
which is much older than mine.
Any ideas will be most welcome - thank you all.

Subject: | Stress engineer needed |
Is there an engineer and Europa owner available anywhere and willing to do some
calculations (for a fee of course) and specifications for a simple re-enforcement
of the fuselage.
For a long time now I have been planning to replace the lower rear access hole
with a larger rectangular opening right on top of the fuselage, just in front
of the fin. This would greatly facilitate working in that tail section and doing
proper regular inspections. The opening would probably be reenforced with
a carbon fibre frame.
If anyone is interested please contact me off-list.
Cheers,
Karl

I will be in the same position with kit 327.
Maybe we just have to use a thin nylon tube on our supplies of thinner
and Loctite 603 and try to get the end in a position to deposit the two
in turn into a place where it will find its way between the two surfaces
to locked together?

Has anyone taken off a wing and rolled a Monowheel on side (using seat
cushions) to either drop gear, or repair a flat? Any pics?
Has anyone rolled a Monowheel on side with 1 wing off to try making work
on Torque Tube area a bit easier? Does it help?
How fast can you go with acceptable handling on ground (GPS) with Tri gear
and wings off?

Hi! Ron
I can only answer the trike question:- I would expect the trike would
handle up to 60kts without much question, it has directional control
with the differential braking. You need to be very much able to
anticipate the adverse torque effect of the prop and engine though, ie:-
hard right rudder would be needed as if with wings. Of course you would
need a very long runway on which to accelerate then brake. The friction
damper on the nose leg would need to be right "on song" too.

Thx. for the reply.
I would expect about the same of the Trigear. Did you ever run yours
without wings on?
I had a I-80 Kasperwing motorglider, and without the wing and associated
inertia, it became less directional stable at a lesser speed than with
wing.
