Just an aside about Lapland, did you know that Jos heats his home with
the water in that lake? The water at the bottom of the lake is around
4deg C, -30C outside.Quite a special person is our Jos.

Hi All,
Graham:Yes, i have been dreaming about landing on the lake for years. The runway
actually is only 8 km long, and 4 km wide. It's not difficult to select into
wind.
At the same time i should mention that it is not all roses either :-)
There are large objects like islands, smaller like fishing net markers, power cables,
and not to forget, rotors and wind shear between the hills. Outside the
airport the pilot is really on his own.
Bob, Skies on the tri-gear should not be too difficult. Close to impossible on
the mono, like any other retractable. No clamp, no play (so far)
Airbear, I pick up heat behind the water radiator, in the place where normally
the oil cooler would be. It' s under dimensioned now, and will be improved during
the winter. My workshop is insulated and heated, no problems with -40 C outside,
other then extremely low humidity, which has caused problems.
Graham, off topic, it's just a heat pump, like you all have in fridges and aircos.
Very efficient, 75% of the heating energy is taken from the lake.
Thanks for all the nice reactions you all!

one thing you need to check, when the airplane is cold soaked, the resin
will be brittle. I don't know what the limits on Ampreg are.
In the early days of flying glass gliders to hi altitude in winter,
(wave) several gliders were damaged ( had to be written off) when they
flew into rough air with the airframe cold.

As many of you will be aware, due to a number of reasons, I haven't done
a lot of work on my aircraft for a while even though there's only a
little bit of work to do on it before it flies. On top of that I lost my
pilot medical last week. It's nothing life threatening but enough to
make the CAA want to bankrupt me with medical bills before they will
reinstate it and with our house construction under way I have other
things which have to take financial priority.
Europa Kit #272 is now for sale.
I have yet to establish a price but I am now taking expressions of
interest in the aircraft which will be sold with its 914 engine. I'll be
selling the instruments as individual items so if you are about to go
and buy instruments (including a FlightDek D180) it'd be worth getting
in contact with me!
Please email me off group (tonyk@kaon.co.nz)
Regards (and a Merry Christmas) to all.

All flying monwheelies,
I'm wondering about the advisability of protecting the rudder cables
from potential muck and moisture where they run through the wheel well
by encasing them in some kind of tubing.
Is there anyone out there who wishes they had?
Or anyone who regrets doing so, and if so, why?
Is anyone aware of any downside to doing so?
Or is this just another non-issue which might prompt the comment,
"Fred, just build the plane!" ?

Tony,
Very sorry to hear of your aviation problems and the resulting sale
of your Europa. Your site and Paul McAllister's site were very
inspirational in my selection of the Europa and have provided much
excellent information over the years. I'm glad to hear you will
remain active in the group.
Best wishes in your new future,
Bob Borger

Fred,
I used Nyloflow tubing to cover the rudder cables from the firewall
to well aft of the wheel well. Since I'm not quite flying yet, I
can't comment on the efficacy of the treatment.

Fred,
I and others have done same. Tube is attached to tunnel sides with P-clips. Have
not had any problems and wouldn't expect any.

I used Nyloflow and after 700 hours I haven't seen any down side. I
believe that is how it is done on the Long Eze's as well.

You keep adding stuff and you won't make it to OSH this year or next! Mine
are per factory and after 7 years may have some dirt on them but are working
fine and are easy to inspect for corrosion etc.
If it's not broke why fix it?
Jerry
