I found some old archives from 2001 making mention of someone having a list of major part numbers and kit numbers. I have concerns about getting my rego without the kit number.     For those club members living in the UK or brave enough to cross the channel in winter, there are still a few places left for the club annual bash on 19 January. Hello Martin, I've got a GRT EIS with graphical interface mated to my Jab 3300 in N245E. I'm overall very pleased with the performance of the GRT EIS. It does occasionally give false low readings on the tach which sets off the RPM alarm, though. Same thing on the EGT. It occasionally will give false high alarms, even though it shows EGT's well within range. I have yet to figure out why I'm getting the false readings and GRT doesn't seem to know, either. It hasn't happened enough to spend a lot of time chasing it, but it is annoying. One thing I have noticed is you should check the integrity of the crimps on the fittings opposite the ring end. You might need to recrimp the CHT leads on the opposite end of the rings. I'd solder the fittings on both ends, too. Really, you should solder any and all crimped fittings to prevent inadvertent loading due to corrosion in the future. I recently replaced four of my GRT CHT sensors with new GRT CHT sensors and a couple of the old ones and all of the new ones had poorly crimped fittings installed. I didn't catch this with the old ones on my initial installation. The fittings opposite the ring end basically came off in my hand with a gentle tug. This causes a high resistance coupling will lead to false readings. I recrimped the red end using a "Sta-Con" tool, then soldered them on both ends. Checking them against a hand-held laser IR temp meter across the range show they now read CHT spot on. Hope it helps!     Hi Martin, I also recently had to contemplate new, non-rotax CHT probes for my new Gen 4 Blue Mountain EFIS. BMA also supplies non-thermocouple sparkplug ring electrodes. The problem is that an engine block is not simply a homogeneous single temperature when operating. Measuring from different places will definitely give you different values. Measuring from a sparkplug or from the outside of the block will give you nice consistent values, BUT you can NOT apply the official factory limits and critical values to those off the mark readings. Kerry at Lockwood confirmed this opinion. Kerry, BTW, is the single most experienced Rotax A&P in North America to my knowledge (save Eric Tucker). Rotax CHTs are quite particular due to the metallurgy of the head. You could measure both standard probe and your rings together for a while and find the offset between them and then apply it to new limits on CHT for your plane. The easier approach in my opinion (at least it was for me) is to get the manufacturer to offer a calibration for the standard rotax probes as an option. The complete cal curves are available on the VDO site and I was able to deliver these to BMA. Its really all they need to let you use the original Rotax probes.     Hi Mark, I have been using an EIS 2004 for about 6 years now. I have had no problems. Re EGT probes, although I fitted mine to the rear exhaust pipes, I never refer to them and I am not sure if they contribute a lot. Perhaps useful to troubleshoot a carburetor problem but I have never had that need. I think you may do just fine without them and it saves some wiring. I fitted the gasket type CHT probes under two rear cylinder head nuts. I am not sure why the CHT probes were not supplied to you. GRT's website at http://www.grtavionics.com/model_2004.htm says they are included. I connected my EIS coolant temperature wire with a faston type connector to the Rotax sender on the lower rear of cylinder no. 3. The oil temp sender has a similar connector. As I have mentioned before, I recommend GRT's excellent fuel flow and totaliser option. I also have a low fuel pressure sender on the auxiliary input - this is intended to give me few seconds warning before the engine stops if the filter blocks or whatever. I assume you drill a hole in the exhaust manifold but where. Is it wise to drill holes in situ as swarf may end up in the exhaust valves. I've gone all this time with no EGT indication so I'm inclined not to fit these. What have others done? 3) It looks like you have to use GRT CHT probes (not supplied, Grrr).     FWIW the Hill accident report is now complete and may be read at NTSB.gov. The NTSB ID is LAX07LA148. Some detail about the marine aux tank is given. The 914 revealed no possible pre-crash malfunction although that conclusion could not be definitive due to the post-fire effect.     Both of these planes must have hit at quite a speed. The tank seems of durable type. Interesting that in the report, the number of seats in the plane was listed as 3.
