Hi Duncan,
The Avmap has a check list box that you just tick to ensure that string is included
or excluded. The Dynon strings include the two that Navaid advise need to
be present for their equipment to operate in course mode.

Regrettably, the relationship with my Europa partner has deteriorated, and I
cannot afford to buy him out and finish the aeroplane.
XS fuselage, 1370 mod, all parts made/ installed, wings rigged, etc, except
top is not bonded on. Includes rigid steel tube (but disassemble-able)
fuselage jig.
Taildragger conversion (structurally complete, stress calculations approved
by PFA/LAA) using trigear main legs.
Foam wings, finished but unfilled. Low drag tips, Pitts type pitot static
(removable) trigear flap fairings. All parts made.
Many parts included: Navaid wing-leveler w/ coupler, all non-gyro
instruments, RMI engine monitor, removable panel faces, capacitance fuel
gauge, Andair tap and gascolator, Goodrich fuel hoses, Singleton firewall
and rudder/tailwheel mod, and much much more.
All mods except the latest wing/tail MPDs incorporated.
Built to an extremely high standard (as Neville Eyre and others will
confirm)
- if you are interested, contact me off-list on milesm@avnet.co.uk or 01460

Subject: | Re: Grand Rapids EIS 2004 (Rotax) |
Happy New Year Europaphiles.
I have used the EIS for 4 years also and have nothing but praise for the
unit although I have found the manual somewhat of a challenge.
I found the GRT EIS method of fault warning invaluable when I had a baffle
move in the exhaust silencer partially blocking the gas exit. The EIS
flashed a warning when this happened and we were able to diagnose a weak
mixture on full power causing a sudden rise in EGT. I would use as many
fault indicators as I could in future as it's so easy for the EIS to monitor
them and reliably tell you of faults as soon as they occur. EGT of course
being one of the most immediate indicators of problem.

Hi Mark,
I have been using an EIS 2004 for about 6 years now. I have had no problems.
Re EGT probes, although I fitted mine to the rear exhaust pipes, I never
refer to them and I am not sure if they contribute a lot. Perhaps useful to
troubleshoot a carburetor problem but I have never had that need. I think
you may do just fine without them and it saves some wiring.
I fitted the gasket type CHT probes under two rear cylinder head nuts. I am
not sure why the CHT probes were not supplied to you. GRT's website at
http://www.grtavionics.com/model_2004.htm says they are included. I
connected my EIS coolant temperature wire with a faston type connector to
the Rotax sender on the lower rear of cylinder no. 3. The oil temp sender
has a similar connector.
As I have mentioned before, I recommend GRT's excellent fuel flow and
totaliser option. I also have a low fuel pressure sender on the auxiliary
input - this is intended to give me few seconds warning before the engine
stops if the filter blocks or whatever.
Wishing you many smooth landings.
Cheers, John

Subject: Europa-List: Grand Rapids EIS 2004 (Rotax) Hi Folks, On the advice
of some of you on this forum, I went with the Grand Rapids EIS for the Rotax
912 as part of my panel upgrade.
A few questions though to those who have already fitted it.
1) Any problems I should look out for. Any gotchas?
2) It came with two EGT probes but nothing to say where they should be
fitted. I assume you drill a hole in the exhaust manifold but where. Is it
wise to drill holes in situ as swarf may end up in the exhaust valves. I've
gone all this time with no EGT indication so I'm inclined not to fit these.
What have others done?
3) It looks like you have to use GRT CHT probes (not supplied, Grrr). I
thought the GRT website said the unit used the Rotax senders or maybe that's
just oil temp and pressure senders?
Any help would be appreciated.

Quite right this is exactly what is happening in some places - but not
in
others. I tried injecting but could not make it work. Became seriously
frustrated (know the feeling?)'.
So I ground down one and found that the voids are actually bubbles in
the
redux. So I ground down the rest of the flange and was glad that I did
' a
number of voids. Not I think enough to imperil the structure but enough
to
upset me.
So what I am left with is the rearmost flange ground down to the skin.
I
am going to do I do a staggered 3 ply lay up along the rear flange onto
the
hull.
Any thoughts on this anyone?
Another question is why this happened. If I were gluing in the cockpit
module again
1. I would use =BC bolts at the key places especially at the
firewall
lower bottom
2. I would support the hull in a webbing sling so that the hull
could
conform to the cockpit module (I made a cradle based on the profile of
the
cockpit module) which it must be admitted is roughly what the europa
cradle
suggests

could it be that there appears to be no adhesive where the module and

there

That is what I thought happened with mine so long ago.

I have a number of (what appear to be) voids in the adhesive bonding the

I have tried injecting redux but I can=92t seem to make that work=85any

The option I thought of was to grind the whole flange down to the skin

then re-construct the join with a bid +/- 45 lay up.
Any ideas? Anyone resolve the same issue?

Hi! Will
Sorry to have missed this sissue before now becxause what I have to say is
too late,..... "had you held a strong light behind the two reduxed surfaces
you would have seen the voids to attend to them prior to curing. I'm surpr
ised you can't inject with a liquid redux mix .
If you have removed the flanges you must do a good job with the scuff sandi
ng to do lay ups against.

Harold Isberg
(also owned a Mono) The foam core dates are august 2001. Harold couldn't
help me with the kit
number as so much time had passed (6 years) since he bought this second
kit.
I found some old
archives from 2001 making mention of someone having a list of major part
numbers and kit numbers.
I have concerns about getting my rego without the kit number.

Paul-
FYI Aircraft Spruce has a reel of copper strapping material for $ 19.90. For the
work you may need to go through, it may be easier to buy it. Also, as was
mentioned, the advantage of strapping is that it is a bit more broad band than
wire would be. I assume that the manufacturers do it that way to provide more
error in the event that you do not tune the antenna. If you have a good Standing
Wave bridge and can tune it, as long as you are below 2.5 - 3 to 1 at the
extreme ends of the spectrum and close to flat at the most commonly used frequencies
you will be transmitting on, wire would work just as well as strapping.
