Does anybody know if some one has looked at this engine for the europa. At
42kg for 110hp
and $18000 Australian it would seem like an excellent choice.

Hello, Brian,
Thanks for your update about your Zaon; 2 questions from your e-mail:
1 The Zaon website quotes (re the MRX) ".displays range and
relative altitude." What about relative bearing - or do you have to look all
around you (at the specified relative altitude) to find the target?
2 I have been following the Mode S saga quite closely; I am aware
of the potential benefits of making sure that any Mode S unit you buy has
1090 mhz extended squitter (so that some day in the future you can link to
ADS-B) - but I had not heard of TIS uplink. Can you tell us, please, what
that does?
Many thanks,
David

Unlikely to be anything near as reliable as the 912 and will burn
substantially more fuel.
In the UK, the PFA as a matter of principle would not approve the use of
2-strokes in the Europa (excepting diesel 2-strokes!).

A friend of mine has installed this 110 hp Hirth on his plane. He has
"blown up" three of the engines, all within 50 hours. Buyer beware.

Hi David
If you were lucky enough to be in the US and had Mode S with say a
Garmin
430, then on screen 2 of the 430 you would have Traffic courtesy of the
Mode
S transponder.
It does not work in Europe as the ground based software is not loaded.
I
understand Garmin offered Eurocontrol to get it working for them. On my
PA30 my 430 has a traffic screen display but it is dead.
Usual Europe it is all take money off you and insist you spend lots to
comply with their requirements - and of course they give nothing back!
Regards
Pete

Can anyone help with the following (I know I have asked this before)...
Our engine continues to run after turning off the master switch and after
remooving the ignition key!
We have checked the earths (ones i can trace) and the wiring appears to be
OK, I wonder if the switch (ACS) could perhaps be faulty, but before I
replace with another would like any advice for what else I can check, or
indeed if anyone has had similar problems?
Engine is 80hp 912 and has done 300 hours.
Thanks in advance to you all...

David,
What I did last spring before starting up a new Rotax installation, was
check the mag switch with plugs removed, and looking for sparks when
"on" and no spark when "off".
Also you can disconnect the ACS switch, and check the terminals on the
bench with your ohmmeter.
Best regards,

Gents,
>From what I have read on the subject recently, the US, European and
Australian ADS initiatives will all be based on mutually incompatible
technologies..
So much for globalisation and standards.

Hi David,
I had this problem which would come and go. It ultimately turned out
to be a broken wire on the ignition coil very close to the connector.
It would "make / break" with engine vibration, sometimes the engine
would shut down, other times it wouldn't depending on where the wire
happened to settle.
