Subject: | DOTH White Waltham Thursday 14th |
Hi Folks,
Can anyone manage to take advantage of the great weather and make a
DOTH at White Waltham tomorrow 14th?. Apologies to those up north but
this seems to be the best available we haven't used. Voucher in Flyer
- 1200ish. ( I know it's Valentines day - just bring her along! )
Cheers, Paddy

yes also looking at that, but hope to be buying my engine in about 3 months,
so
that limits things some what, still considering converting a GSXR1300 bike
engine
and then de-rating it back to a sensible level. straight out of the box they
are 180hp
with peak torque about the same as the 914 rotax, plus the weight advantage
of about 10kg
over the 914.

If I want to get some idea if my altimeters are reading anything like
(or reading at all), could I do this by connecting the static line to
a U tube manometer and generating the relevant -ve presure - (I found
a chart of altitude vs pressure)?
Also I was envisaging doing the same for ASI but cant find any sort
of reference re differential pressure vs airspeed.

Paul

Paul,
When I need a quick and dirty Pitot Static check, my local avionics shop
told me this one and I use it when I build panels. I will suck the
static line down to 1 inch hg pressure which is 1000 feet and pinch the
line.
The airspeed is going to come up to 135 Knots and both should hold. You
may need to disconnect your vsi if it vents excessively. No special
equipment necessary. The cost of having a certified shop give you a
check is not prohibitive. Have them guarantee that they will check the
panel when done (prior to installation) and after final assembly for one
price.
The pitot I do not check as the main problem with airspeed indicators is
the static side.
For true functionality to include the altitude encoder, there is no
replacement for a proper P&S check by a suitable avionics shop.

Craig...I'm envious of your technical skills which allow you to
consider such an audacious task.
As for the Gemini, below is an email address which you can use to
request email-newsletters:
info@ppdgemini.co.uk
Good luck,
Fred
