My understanding is that the UK CAA is about to issue to every pilot, air
traffic-er, etc, the necessary certificate of proficiency, automatically and
without any application being needed.
I will check on the progress of this process - tens of thousands are to go
out - when I attend the CAA's General Aviation Consultative Committee on
Tuesday 11 March, and will then report back to this forum; do not expect
this report before Friday 14 March, due to my other commitments.

David,
My wife and I (both professional licence holders) were issued with a
certificate a month ago. So the process is obviously underway.

Do any of you technical guys know how to wire the standard factory
supplied stall warner into the intercom circuit so that you get an
audible warning through the headsets as well as the buzzer?

Greetings from Germany!
Hi friends,
As known the Germans do things always direct and immediately.
We have to install the Mode S transponder right now ' in UK it is law
in
2010.
About thirty years ago I made my BZF1 (English version of the
=93deutsches
Sprechfunkzeugnis=94). I have used it very seldom, but received from my
government in Feb. 08
the > Attestation of ICAO-Language proficiency based on Annex 1, Chapter
1.2.9 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation <
> Hereby it is confirmed that Bruno Reith, date of birth: **.**.**
has
demonstrated the ability to speak and understand the English Language
for radiotelephony communication at the Operational Level (Level
4).
<
In other words, it=92s allowed for me to speak English.
Have great fun.
Best Regards,
Bruno Reith

Subject: | Re: Stall warner |
I have just ordered the same, I guess if you wanted it to come through
the intercom, you would need some form of tone generator, you can get
very simple kits from radio shack and the like which take about 10 minutes to solder
up then use the voltage from the stall warner circuit
to run the piezo as well as the tone generator then just running the
output into an aux feed for the intercom instead of into a speaker should
give you what you want. Not sure if you have or intend to use ANR headsets, but
you may run into issues there with the headset/ANR canceling back out the tone
you generate. I am interested in the result
if you go this option as i am not up to that bit yet.

Craig

Hello Alan,
I believe it was George Bernard Shaw that said:
"England and America are two countries separated by a common language"
Perhaps the FAA wants to make sure you know how to speak American? Now, if
they'd extend that rule to the folks streaming across our southern border
things would certainly improve, since our gubmint isn't going to do squat to stop
them from coming here illegally. I do get very tired of having to "Push 1
for English" in a country where English is the primary language......

Lance, Rob, Kingsley, Jos, and Dave,
Thanks for your input and comments...they encourage my sense that a
minor deviation from the build manual is worth my time and attention.

Subject: | mod 70 clearance for balance weights |
I have done the replacement of the elevator mass balance arm, using
the tufnol bushes as supplied instead of the cables to control lateral movement,
but i am wondering if i have too much clearance. I packed
the bushes with thin strips of timber to give about 1mm of total clearance
but it still thumps when moved from side to side. I have concerns about
going too tight here in case it wants to bind through a steep turn or similar.
I wonder if the cables are not a better way to go.

Gentlepeople,
Please be happy that you don't have to learn a foreign language. Even in
your countries you have to learn a bit of radiocommunication uses. The
upset is to limit the vocabulary to 1500 words and standard phraseology
for the exams. Don't be afraid that you have to go to Oxbridge for the
accent and quote Shakespeare. You will be glad to hear your mothertongue
as a standard in airspaces where until now also other languages are
used.
