No, I don't use Evans, but I think its perhaps time to change the hoses, and fit the new clamps from rotax. thanks ----- Original Message ----- From: Trevpond@aol.com To: europa-list@matronics.com Sent: Friday, March 28, 2008 12:39 PM Subject: Re: Europa-List: leaks on cooling system Hi there, Are you using Evans? I have just had to change my Radiator Hoses after 150 hours using Evans - it seemed to soften them and developed a leak on the ends - tightening the clips didn't achieve anything. The hoses had expanded before the clamps and had gone "Squishy". Hoses have been changed and Evans flushed out and replaced with 50/50 glycol mix and all is now well again. regards Trev Pond G-LINN

Leaking problems here too. As long as the engine is warm, not a drop. If i don't use the engine heater, there will be a few drops. Seems to be a problem caused by different expansion ratios. The traditional screw type hose clamps are not good enough. However i could only find Rotax 17 mm spring clamps. Anyboby with a source and or partnumber for 25 mm spring hose clamps? Hi Jos "Anyboby with a source and or partnumber for 25 mm spring hose clamps?" I am not a tremendous fan of hose clamps that hold a constant dimension on something that heats up and cools down. If you overtighten to prevent cold leaking, it can permanent damage hose once things expand when things warm up. http://rotorclip.com/ to the rescue. Rotax changed over to band style spring clamps for coolant hoses for just the reason described. www.mcmaster.com sells Wide-Band Self-Tightening Spring Hose and Tube Clamps on page 252. I know I ordered a full compliment for my 914 install, some from McMaster, and some from Rotorclip. I can't remember if I ordered direct from Rotorclip, or if they gave me a distributor and ordered from them. For what it is worth, I have a set of blue Silicone hoses for 914, which are slippery creatures compared to traditional hose. Ron Parigoris PS McMaster has a nice selection of Miniature Bolt Hose and Tube Clamps in 304 SS on page 251 "fuel, sight, vent" line and other from 19/64" up to 45/64".

Hi Jos I used Vauxhall/Opel/GM Part number 90572595 spring clamps, I have used Silicone hoses on my 914 which are slightly thicker than the stock Rotax hose, But these clips are suitable for both type of hoses, Regards Ivor Subject: Re: Europa-List: leaks on cooling system The traditional screw type hose clamps are not good enough. Subject: Restarting my build
Hi folks, It's been a long time since I posted anything here after to a long hiatus in my Europa-building activities due to changes in my personal circumstances (divorced, moved house three times, remarried - you get the picture). However, I am now installed in my new workshop and ready to retrieve all my aeroplane bits from my mum's garage. Before I get my wings into the workshop, however, I thought I would have a go at baking the control surfaces that I have made so far. I have some insulation panels left over from insulating the workshop, so I am going to build myself a big oven. However, I vaguely remember seeing some discussion here a while back about supporting the items whist they are being heated to avoid distortion, but I can't find the messages in the archive - I'm probably searching with the wrong key words. So if anyone has any advice in this area, I would be very grateful for it. Finally, if anyone here still has a link to my old website, I have moved it to www.ricks.me.uk/europa and I will try to keep it up to date as I progress. I look forward to talking to you all more frequently in the coming years! Regards Rick Sivier

Hi folks I'm submitting a mod form to the LAA for the installation of a (single) Floscan fuel flow sensor. It would help if I had some previous examples of other Europas which have had this mod approved by PFA/LAA. All help appreciated. Also, please could you say where you have installed the transducer? Many thanks in advance. Willie G-BZNY - a plane being reborn, currently feeling the early contractions...

Thank you guys for the rescue. Because i have a very non-standard cooling system, i had to make connections from different pieces of hose. It looks like a patch blanket :-) As a result there are a lot more possible leaking conections as i would like. Remembers me: I have a brand new oil cooler, which i will not use. Available for shipping costs. Regards, Jos Okhuijsen Visit - www.EuropaOwners.org
