      Hi! Jason
I have a Bell Intercooler fitted and I'm interested in your Intercooler
Installation but can't find your web site as indicated below. Would you
please mail me it direct to:-

      ptag.dev@tiscali.co.uk

Also have you, or will you be making any provision anti carb ice? The
lowest carb throat temp. I have recorded during a rapid decent, engine
      idling, from 4,000ft (ground ambient 11deg Centigrade ) is 6 deg C.
However we in the UK have very low humidity conditions in winter.

      Regards
      Bob Harrison. G-PTAG

      Bud,
I have the intercoolers done. Take a look at my web sight under page
Europa. I took the pictures with a higher quality camera. Tell me what
you think. See if you can drum up some interest.

The etching primer is thick enough that you lost the clearances for a
slip fit. During the assembly you probably scrapped the paint enough to
cause galling (or little paint rolls) which has locked it up.

Clean off the primer, I would use a spray of acetone to clean the inside
of the tube from the rear. That will loosen the paint up. Use a fine
tip heat gun and heat the frame only where the interference is. Etching
primer gets soft at about 200F (just to a sizzle when water put on it is
enough). That will not hurt the tubing or firewall. Remove the heat
and use alcohol to cool the insert then tap again. If it moves in go
ahead and try to move it in further or make an extraction tool.

I made the same mistake on one aircraft and had to put a painfully long
screw (5/16 inch with a washer head ground to fit) inside the gear frame
tube but large enough to catch the insert wall. I then borrowed a slide
hammer to extract the insert. Lucky for me it was only in about an
inch. But it still requires removing the bolts from the frame,
machining a bolt head which will fit your slide hammer, replace the
frame bolts, and then heating the stupid thing, cooling the insert and
      then pull it out.

Now I just ream, squirt with zinc chromate or the Corrosion X (ACP or
ACF 50) and tap it in wet and recoat front and rear to seal it in. If
you put primer on both the parts and let it dry, make the paint thin and
use the ACF 50 as a lube as well as for anticorrosion.

      Hope it helps.

Suppose that you were doing Mod 72 and it was going to be really easy as
you you are still building and haven't got the engine attached.

So, suppose that you have borrowed the club reamer and opened up the
tubes in the undercarriage frame and cleaned them out. The unpainted
inserts could then be pushed in by hand until only about 1cm was
      showing.

Suppose then that you were rather enthusiastic with the etch primer and
after it had dried, tried to push the inserts in. Having got them half
way in with a hammer, what would you do if they really really didn't
want to go any further in? I mean hitting them with a hammer via a
      block

| Subject: | Re: Completed monowheel airframe for sale (JR Gowing) |

      Hi Bob,
You are a couple of years older than me and have broken what I thought was
      the longest
      build-time record.

The Lyndhurst fuel level indicator is now part of Europa's mod 60 Kit for fitting
      to the
Europa fuel tank. It is supplied by Lyndhurst - Touchdown - Services Ltd
(www.avnet.co.uk/touchdown) to the precise length specified by the buyer. I bought mine from
      Touchdown before mod 60 appeared.
The sensor is a sealed stainless steel tube housing 8 reed switches. These
      are activated by
an external magnetic ring float. My mod 10710 has this sensor assembly housed in
      a
precision-made fibreglass tube, flanged at the top and sealed at the bottom with
      an embedded
boss holding a 90 deg inlet pipe fitting. A thick machined aluminium ring at the
      top carries the
outlet pipe fitting. The unit is inserted in to the left hand vent line and is
      mounted on a
substantial bracket reduxed to the forward baggage bay bulkhead just behind the
      fuel tank ( the
mod 74 lift-pin crosstube passes between my unit and the bulkhead with a small
      clearance). It
took two attempts and a complex jig to get the fibre glass tube right and then
      six months to
clear the mod with our PFA (now LAA). I also had to do the pressure test specified
      in JAR-VLA
965 - equivalent to an eleven foot head of fuel. The main advantage is, being translucent,
      it is
possible to see the fuel level in the tube in your pre-flight ckecks and you have
      a proper
      contents indicator on the panel.
If you would like more detail (and several week's work!), please contact me
      off list and I
      will be pleased to help.

      Sincerely
      Gerry Cole, kit 121

      Ferg and Craig,
Thanks for the encouragement but not having flown as P1 for a while, I've decided
      it would
be nice to sit back with a beer and watch others do the aviating. I'm sure you
      are enjoying your
build as much as I have. The satisfaction of producing a Europa component as near
      perfect as
possible is something few outside our circle experience.

      Josok,
On occasion a builder has to proceed carefully and think things through if
      he is using a
technique or material that is new to him, but that is the quickest way of learning.
      I've also
found that you need plenty of preparation, dry runs and memorised steps if something
      like a
complex layup needs to be completed quickly without errors - that is where the
      hours go.

here's a thought, if you no longer want to own your bird, maybe sell a half
share, that being the engine etc
to get her flying, and even if you dont have your licence any more you could
get your other share holder to
take you for a spin, just mind you dont spill your beer :)
