Thanks Peter, The inspection list and statistical results of inspections are both of extreme importance for continued safety of our aircraft. Even more there where we do not have the benefit of a inspectors with thorough knowledge of the type. What is the right word to classify withholding safety critical information? Paul, I also would like you or anybody for that matter to send info on what is required and where to get parts to build a conventional geared Europa. My kit is originally a monowheel but haven't done any of the gear building yet. Thanks, Roger A252 Paul, Would you send me the contact information needed for the conversion. I too am thinking of changing to a tail dragger. Thank you, Ralph Reno, NV Paul McAllister wrote: Hi All, Some of you may recall from my previous postings that I intend to convert my mono to a tail dragger. I got the conversion kit from Bob Berbue about a month ago and I have decided that I will fly this summer and then over winter I will do the conversion. I am slowly organizing all the bits I need and I was wondering if some generous soul would be prepared to lend me the moulding that fits on the tunnel for the finger brakes, and the aluminum hardware that is used for mounting up the Matco master cylinders. I'd like make a splash copy of the moulding and return it as soon as I am finished. If anyone in the US can help me I'd appreciate it. Obviously I would cover any out of pocket expenses. Hi William, Sorry for the delay in posting but I haven't been able to post for a while due to subscription issues. I have those ironed out now and have some thoughts. I did a post some time ago that might help. Click below, or do a search on WING with danbish as the author. http://www.europaowners.org/viewtopic.php?t=3480&highlight=wing There are a few photos that might help at: http://www.europaowners.org/modules.php?set_albumName=FittingWings&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php Anyway, this is what worked for me but I'm not flyin' yet so I might just find I fly around in circles! For those participating in the Cromer Doth, I have further information. The village of Northrepps is a few minutes walk from the airfield, where th ere is a bus service to Cromer which takes less than 10 minutes. A bus leav es the Foundry Arms at 12.45 pm, so it would be a good idea to arrive at th e airfield at mid day. A decision on whether to eat at the pub, or in Cromer can be made on the da y. At this time I favour the ride into town. Please do not forget your bus passes. Further info is available on www.northreppsaerodrome.co.uk . Cromer radio i s 129.825 Regards. Hi Jos and others who asked about the "inspectors" list. I may have given the impression that this is some sort of secret list but that isnt the case. It is simply a collection of notes relating to Europa issues which the PFA have sent out to owners from time to time since the Europa became a PFA aircraft. If you are a PFA (now LAA) member you would have recieved these. They are issued in a fairly random manner and I dont recall having seen any new ones for quite a while. Past bulletins include notes on wear in the outrigger bearings and play in the tailplane assembly. Not sure if they are available directly from the PFA though I understood they had been sent to the appropriate inspectors. Maybe someone in the know could confirm this. As suggested previously, Neville may be able to help you if you want to get hold of them. Most have since been replaced by official Europa mods. I will have a look in my builders file and see if I can locate any of my own copies. Carl Pattinson G-LABS Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=182700#182700

Jos: I am afraid you make assumptions where evidence is lacking. Suffice to say that there are many areas of any europa, once completed that are beyond any conventional inspection or testing. Carl: You confirm that these are "secret" safety lists (is that an oxymoron!) only available to LAA members. Someone seems to forget that half the fleet is outside the dominion of the LAA. Safety information should know no proprietary bounds. FAA Advisory Circulars are freely available to all. -------- Ira N224XS Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=182716#182716

When I was reading on Safety Bulletin for Tailplanes, I remember reading about the "secret" safety lists. Not easy to track down, but someone was kind enough to send me scanned copies. I have 3 files. Unfortunate any one of those files is too large for Matronics to handle. I would be pleased to share files, what is easiest way? Some good information contained I have not seen or heard discussed anywhere else. Ron Parigoris

Hi Ira, Sorry, no assumption. Somebody said that quality of inspection was guaranteed because it was done according to a list of known problem areas. On the question were that list and it's (statistical) results is available no real answer pops up, and in other postings that check list is played down to some known, factory followed up, items. Conventional? Is that non-destructive? testing can be very effective if you know where to look, eventually with the aid of a bore-scope or ultra sound Simple tapping also reveals a lot. But it all boils down to in depth knowledge of what you are looking for. In this stage i tend to give up. Everything is just fine. There are no problems because planes are inspected perfectly according to a non-existing list. Whatever happens thereafter has nothing to do with the perfect system. End of thread for me. Jos: Through my friendship with various builder assistance people, I have heard many tales of builders going wrong, in many imaginative ways. How about 5 min epoxy instead of redux for some structural joints, how about bid instead of uni and vice versus. As I said, there are many places including inside layups, even for drag pin sockets that are not inspectable by routine methods. At my home base there is a gent who built a beautiful copy of an ME109. He expected it would be airworthy. He built it with Home-Depot bolts and Douglas Fir wood. On taxi, it crushed the landing gear. OK, the PFA might have caught that one during build. There are builders who will confound any conscientious inspector at a years on condition inspection especially if they do not scrap off the filler and paint. -------- Ira N224XS Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=182755#182755

Has or does anybody near California have a reamer so I can complete this mod. Failing that I'll buy the reamer and loan it out once I finished with it. I'm off the OKC for a week and will be back on Friday. Are there any Europas in or near KOKC? Dave, I hope your propeller is okay now. Jiri from Woodcomp is finally speaking to me again. I only wanted some information about motors, but he refused to answer any emails, fax, or secretary's mess ages. I finally had to write to the Czech Embassyand their commercial attac he made a phonecall which seems to have worked like magic. Pavel, in B.C. tells me that my Woodcomp is being shipped back by UPS today , I'll keep my fingers crossed. Subject: Re: Door bulge because of seal
Well here is my fix for the bulging doors, a piece of 3mm x 12mm alluminium reduxed and flush rivetted, clears the door sill by about 3mm, door was slightly over flattened with a straight edge and clamps alloy bent to be about 3mm flatter than the curve through the door opening. doors are now even and flush right along the opening with seals in place. Overall weight increase 80g per door. craig Checked by AVG. 6:14 PM

    Subject: Accident Report Question
I read with interest the accident report for G-OHFC. Respectfully, perhaps someone could clarify something. The report says that the aircraft to Bodmin Airfield for the annual inspection. Quote: << and flew to Bodmin Airfield in Cornwall arriving at 1215 hrs. It was taxied to the maintenance hangar where the pilots met with the Popular Flying Association (PFA, now renamed the Light Aircraft Association or LAA) inspector and the annual inspection was carried out. Following the inspection the pilots had lunch before departing at 1330 hrs. >> So including lunch that's 1 hr 15 min from touchdown to takeoff. How could an annual take that short a time? How would they have taken the wings off for the inspection - unless maybe they have some means of stabilizing the fuselage? Regards, Martin Tuck Europa N152MT
