    Subject: Negative Flap
For those of you that have set up to run negative flap for cruise flight i have a couple of questions firstly did you allow for this in the initial set up of your flaps on the wings, or was this just done by moving the actuator slightly and taking up the small gap you are supposed to leave during the build. secondly how much does this close the original gap up at say minus 2 degrees, and how much difference did it make to cruise performance. Why i ask is I was wondering if the extra performance being seen is just simply the effect of sealing the gap behind the flaps when they hit the back of the wing at say minus 2, which some of you good people are experimenting with now, and do i bother investing the time in trying to find good way to seal the flaps when I will get the same result with negative flap craig Checked by AVG. 4:45 PM

Craig, I look forward to meaningful responses to the questions you raise. FWIW, I've maintained a flap gap of .150 inches w/ 2 tongue depressor sticks taped together; when I remove them, the angle of the flap (when fully retracted) changes by 1.2 degrees. I am very pleased to announce the First flight of G-IVER at 0831 today, My good friend and flying companion Bob Harrison came down to Lydd to witness the event, and without his encouragement and sage advise she probably wouldn't be flying for at least a couple of more years, She is a little bit of a porker :-) at 910 lb but you wouldn't know it from the way she climbed away, It flew straight and true and is a delight to fly, I am looking forward to all the test flying at long last, All I can say is the 40 minutes of flight time today is ample reward for the years of building, One very happy bunny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK, the WWII plane spotter's guide was: "If it's ugly, it's British; if it's weird, it's French; and if it's ugly and weird, it's Russian." So, what is that tri-motor abomination (G-BDOT in case the guide is not sufficient) in the foreground of the third photo? do not archive Best regards, Rob Housman Irvine, CA Europa XS Tri-Gear A070 Airframe complete From: owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Ivor Phillips Sent: Wednesday, May 21, 2008 1:01 PM Subject: Europa-List: first flight G-IVER Some more pictures of today's event J Ivor

Sincere Congratulations to Ivor Phillips on producing a fine example of Europa aircraft. He undertook the first flight himself at Lydd (EGMD) around 0900 hours today 21/05/08 after an o/night sleep in his car waiting for coastal cross winds to abate. It sounds great and flew like a 1st class example should. Regards Bb Harrison G-PTAG PS I have sent the photo to the Europa Owners Gallery administrator to put on the gallery.

Dave Ivor will be in dreamland yet so I'll do a quick reply XS c/w ..914 and Woodcomp SR3000 Scimitar c/w Smart controller and lots of electronic guismo's I would suggest making it as near IFR capable as possible.
