I just hung a brand new exhaust system on my 912ULS and find the
banjo bolt is closer to the muffler heat shield than previously.
It could just be an optical illusion with all that bright shiny metal there
for the first time in a long time. I've lengthened the down pipe of
number 1 cylinder a fair bit with the slide.

Does anyone know the reasonable minimal distance between shield
      and bolt?

      Thanks,

      Ira,
I use about a half inch from the banjo bolt to the muffler, primarily to
give clearance for the clamp and of course the silver heat shielding to
protect the oil line. I have run as little as 1/4 of an inch from the
muffler heat shield to the clamp which went around the heat sleeve
material over the oil line and clamp.

Check also the engine hasn't started to sag a little, as the mounting
bolt spacers may need to be adjusted to get the engine back to level so
the muffler will clear the cowl / ducting.

      The joys of aircraft ownership.

      Everyone,

Has anyone been able to source Araldite 420 and Araldite 2102 (rapid epoxy) in
the US or Canada? If you have, can you forward me their contact information.

The stuff from my partially completed kit that I have purchased has expired. The
stuff I believe is classified as hazardous material for shipping and I'm in
Canada so I'll need to find out if the vendor can ship it here too.

      OR

Is there an "approved" alternative that can be used that is readily available in

Roger, and other Europa Builders in need of Redux also known as Araldite
      420 or Epibond 420 A/B.

I order Redux in cases direct through my long time distributor TAPE. As
there is no other acceptable substitute for Redux, for the Europa and as
a result I am still buying it in bulk and shipping it. I have looked
for substitutes, and many epoxies are as strong, but none as ductile or
willing to be used in aircraft.

I have been informed by my US distributor of Epibond 420 A/B (Redux)
that the manufacturer, Huntsman Products in California, has restructured
their pricing and packaging. I have been in contact with my
distributor and Huntsman over the last four months trying to resolve the
issue. Gladly, Huntsman has at least changed their policy and have
agreed to distribute Epibond 420 in 6 quart cases again. Unfortunately,
Huntsman has nearly doubled the price per case with no significant bulk
discounts available for multiple cases. I've researched importing
fresh Redux from overseas and it is slightly more costly due to the weak
      dollar and high shipping/hazardous fees.

If I order soon, and I can still combine with other distributors I can
get 6 quarts for about $280 a quart plus shipping to you (typically
$20). Yes, I know that is $120 more than last year. Airbus is the
primary user so if anyone knows someone at Airbus that can steal you
some and smuggle it into the states, we are stuck with some pretty ugly
      prices.

Delivery is 30-45 days to me so it will all be a fresh batch. Shelf
life is a year opened or unopened but usually good for at least two if
      unopened.

I have tentative orders for 2-3 quarts so far. I need three others.

Yes it hurts. It has been virtually complete for the past 3 years while

Surely there is Technological fix that would allow you to keep flying. Like
one of those BOSE or ZULU ANR headsets to cut out
virtually all background noise and turn the radio way up so you can hear it
clearly. Sure they are not cheap but if it lets you keep
flying, assuming you want to, it could be worth a look.

      Tom,
Really sorry to hear that you are selling N96V. I know that it must
hurt since you never even got a chance to fly it.
      Regards,

Yes it hurts. It has been virtually complete for the past 3 years
while I contemplated my increasing hearing loss. It is now such that I
can no longer understand many radio transmissions. Therefore, it is
      reluctantly for sale.

N96V is an XS mono with Airmaster prop, jabiru 120 hp, and comes with
trailer, ap, radios, coupled gps, and much more. Asking $49,000 or BO.
Located Ellensburg WA Email me for photos and a long list of extras.

Believe me I have tried everything available during the 3 years that I have
been concerned about this. It is not just about volume of sound. Thanks
      for your thoughts.

      Craig...
Once open a year. The Huntsman product paperwork I have says 1 year,
but I use it up to 3 if closed and stored properly. The problem is with
the hardener. It makes a slime top if not properly stored, even
      unopened.
We are held hostage by Huntsman over here.
      Woe are we.

Roger, and other Europa Builders in need of Redux also known as
      Araldite 420 or Epibond 420 A/B.

I order Redux in cases direct through my long time distributor TAPE.
As there is no other acceptable substitute for Redux, for the Europa
and as a result I am still buying it in bulk and shipping it. I have
looked for substitutes, and many epoxies are as strong, but none as
ductile or willing to be used in aircraft.

If I order soon, and I can still combine with other distributors I
can get 6 quarts for about $280 a quart plus shipping to you (typically

I and others have mentioned this before on this site about expiration dates on
the Redux. Alot of that is due to how long they want to keep records and liability.
If you are concerned about the suitability of the material concerning
its expriation date make a test coupon. Make a lap sample of the thickness or
number of plies of fiberglass etc that you are anticipating to bond in service
and do a destructive test. If the fibereglass breaks or tears before the
bond separates you can reasonably be assured your material is still good.

      Hi! Tom
So sorry that you have to split out from your bird. Have you done
hearing tests using the Bose Noise attenuated head sets? I haven't
brilliant hearing but the Jabiru emits a really crap radio noise which I
found impossible to shut out, so Ivor Phillips and I flew thousands of
miles with the damn squelch button lifted . Now I have (at great
expense) the Bose head sets and generally it is noise free.
Obviously you will have had tests in other aircraft before making this
      momentous decision?
      Best regards
Bob Harrison G-PTAG (Now with Rotax 914!)

Believe me I have tried everything available during the 3 years that I
have been concerned about this. It is not just about volume of sound.
      Thanks for your thoughts.

      Tom
