Does anybody have a measurement of the final length of the tape aerial mounted in the fin of the Europa after adjustment with the SWR gadget? Is there any reason why I should not paint over the aerial with rest of the fin closeout ? Thanks Mike Gamble Finally getting ready for the paint-shop.

Mike, Is there any reason to paint the tail close out, or the other close outs for that matter? Apart from directly affecting the integrity of the Tufnol, grease is also likely to act as a magnet for dust etc which would turn it into grinding paste. The manual suggests wiping the faces of CS04 with grease before assembling the CS02-CS03-CS04 cluster - but that should only be applied to the glassy as-manufactured surfaces, not the cut edges or bore of the hole. The only lubricant Neville would accept for the bore is PTFE. I have never seen it myself but apparently it can be got as a spray which is solid particles in a rapid-evaporating propellant. regards Rowland -- | Rowland Carson LAA #16532 http://home.clara.net/rowil/aviation/ | 1070 hours building Europa #435 G-ROWI e-mail <rowil@clara.net>

Rowland, PTFE is teflon. Quite common in spray form... The aeroplane didn't look damaged either. Wonder if they got it down without spoiling it? Well done! Lucky the plane hung on, and that it wasn't gusty. After rescuing the pilot/passenger, I wonder how they got the plane down. Hopefully it was done nicely, and will fly soon (by recovered pilot himself). Do not archive

I immediately recognized it as a Europa Classic Tri-Gear when I saw it on Fox News this evening. Sheppard Smith was doing his around the world in 80 seconds and they showed a brief shot of it. I knew I'd find the story here too. Wow they were lucky. Hope they got the plane down too without breaking it. Troy Visit - www.EuropaOwners.org
