Frans. Just occurred to me .....are the bellcranks of equal leg, because if not you may have one incorrect way round giving you unequal movements? Regards Bob Harrison G-PTAG -----[/quote:04b201de89] You mean that I might have mounted it incorrectly? I checked everything already, this is not the case. The error would then be much higher. I suspect the problem what I have is due to the accumulation of build- and part tolerances. If you are lucky consequitive tolerances cancel each other out, in my case they probably work in the same direction. Maybe I should just swap the bell cranks? ;-) I found that the starboard aileron drive pin is 1mm too close to the hinge. Could this be the cause? Incredible timing because I have been contemplating for some time now about asking if anyone knows of waterproof microswitches that I could use for the outriggers. Regarding your U/C lever switch, to my way of thinking, if you are going to have a true Down and Locked indication, you will need an extra switch to sense when the undercarriage latch is fully engaged. This one should be in series with the one depicted in your photograph of the U/C lever in the Down detent. Just my 2c worth. I realize this is a new build and things can change. I don't think things will change, but will keep an eye on and if I ever see latch not locked and switch actuated will fiddle to make happen again. If you did not do so, install a spring. I could not achieve what I considered reliable results using gravity to allow latch t fall into place. For one thing, unless surface where upstop contacts lever is polished, it can drag and hang up. Also if you push hard enough, the slight clearance allowed thing to twist and slight jam in up position. If you notice I am using a NAS bolt for pivot (dished cut on head). AN hardware is undersized, NAS is much closer to bolt size, thus better fit. Side note, NAS fit is much better for undercarriage mounting frame to CPM. Downlatch spring works great: http://www.europaowners.org/modules.php?full=1&set_albumName=album215&id=IM003062&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php I purchased a pressure switch from Europa, same as stall warner switch will put in down and latched circuit. Will set where it triggers at ~70 knots to liven up circuit. Thinking in addition to LEDs, will put a cell phone style mini motor in stick with offset weight to shake stick if you are under 70 knots and gear is not down. In future when I get glider wings installed, will need to put one more switch on the airbrake lever. With airbrake closed, circuit will be dead, only when you open airbrake will circuit come alive. You want gear up when below 70knots when soaring. I believe it was Graham who discussed the importance of aileron drive pin alignment. If alignment is not within a tight tolerance, adjustment of ailerons can be impossible. Do a search on matronix with this exact phrase(without the dashes): --drive pin is the main critical-- [/quote:5072120439] Eh, if I try this, it will just come up with this thread. Do you have a direct link please? frans Visit - www.EuropaOwners.org ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 12:48:51 PM PST US From: "Remi Guerner" Subject: Europa-List: Boiling fuel due to underpressure? Frans, Have a look at the curve on paragraph 9.5 of the 914 Operator=92s Manual which shows the correlation between throttle position and airbox pressure (absolute pressure). This curve shows that airbox pressure increases from 45 percent throttle position and beyond . So as long as you are running beyond the 45 percent throttle position, when you push the throttle forward you increase airbox pressure. This causes the fuel pressure regulator to increase the fuel pressure, and, as demonstrated before, the flow through the pump is reduced. There is a common misconception that the turbo is providing boost beyond the 100 percent throttle position only. This is far from the truth. The airbox pressure curve shows that the turbo is boosting any time you are running beyond 45 percent throttle position. And this is at sea level. At altitude, the turbo is providing boost all the time, whatever the throttle position. Remi [/quote:08514aa99f] Somehow you make the assumption that giving more power causes somehow the regulator to change its pressure setting? I agree that the turbo changes the pressure somewhat if you get over the 100% stop, and then you may be right, the fuel pump needs to work harder. However, up to the 100% level, the pressure in the airbox should hardly change. In this range, the power lever should have no influence on the fuel pressure needed, and hence not affect flow. ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 03:08:10 PM PST US Subject: Re: Europa-List: Aileron setup From: "Frans Veldman" If you had tried it you would have gotten what I had already tested, which would be another thread similar to the info at this link: [/quote:3e04ab2bc2] I tried, honestly, but matronix came up with the message where you told me to search for this phrase. [/quote:8ecb0f5323] Yes, but I also checked with a protractor. If I use the digital level, I clamp it on the aileron, set the aileron neutral (eyeball method), make a reading of the digital level, and use this as a reference for the maximum up- and down movement. This way, it doesn't matter where I put the digital level, as long as I don't move it between the readings. BTW I like your "eyeball method". Good idea! I'm going to try it tomorrow. Working on mounting switch for gear lever, came to conclusion it will be more eloquent and functional to imbed a magnet on the tip of the gear down latch on the port side of the aeroplane, and use a reed switch. We ordered up from Allied an assortment of Coto Technology Dyad reed switches (both molded and not, mini and regular all with wire leads), and the only magnet they offered that seemed would work. Also ordered and assortment of magnets from McMaster. This way the only way the reed switch (on the port side below) will be turned on is if the latch is down, which means the lever is in proper position. Will post what we decide on.
