I chose to fly my plane in primer prior to painting it a year later. I used K36
Primer made by PPG, which is dark gray in color. The reason for flying in primer
was the same as others; not wanting to make changes to a plane after it
has been painted. Since I live in Las Vegas, NV which is a rather warm climate,
I was fairly certain I would be making changes to the cowling (my own design)
in an effort to keep it cool on the ground.
I did not experience any warping of the flying surfaces or any part of the plane
for that matter. However, it is more work to go this route than I originally
though. I was under the impression I would be able to clean the primer and
then prep it for painting. Not so. My mentor (Lynn Elsner )required that I first
wash the old primer to remove as much of the surface contamination and then
completely sand off all of the old primer and apply a fresh coat of primer
prior to prepping it for paint. While it was a considerable effort to primer
the plane effectively twice, flying in primer was the right call for me.

Subject: | W26 lift pin blocks |
I hadnt considered the wings being the issue, the inner rib on my wings are
12.5mm from the edge, but I
would think that the distace from the spar bushing to the ring would be a
more appropriate place to measure
my port wing measures at 104mm rib to pin centre and the starboard wing at
111mm. Given the difference
you could be correct. The extra 7mm would have made quite a difference.

Craig
Thank you for your reply. I would be grateful of any pictures you have,
Thank You. My situation is the same as yours!!! On the port side I would
need to reduce the W26 by about 5mm and on the Starboard side need to be
reduced by about 3mm to get the wing pins to fit as they should. At the
moment Im waiting a reply from Roger at the factory who is getting in touch
with Andy Draper. I have considered your option.
Another suggestion from where the fault is, that the root rib has been built
too far inboard or not gigged correctly when they have been manufactured. A
clue is that your kit number is 554 and my kit number is 557 for the wings.
I would like to know if kit no. 556 had the same problem!!!!
