Anyone for a DOTH tomorrow? Weather looks good. I don't have any of
the mags for free landings so am open to suggestions. If all else fails
how about Halfpenny Green?
Please reply if you would like to go as I will find something else to do
if no-one else is going.

Subject: | Berube conventional gear |
Hello group, after retiring, moving, traveling and a 3 year absence I am coming
up to speed back working on my Europa again. This is my first post in the matronics
system.
I am just finishing installing my Berube conventional gear mod. I am dealing with
the subsequent re-setup of the flap operation, i.e., deciding on electric or mechanical
actuation. I am leaning toward mechanical. And how to make use of my now unused
monowheel open space. The gear is raked about a foot and intended to be raked
forward
but Bob Berube told me it might be acceptable to put the rake rearward. I will
have to evaluate each positions stability and tendency to ground loop. The gear
is one piece and hangs just below the fuselage so should be fared in. I believe
I will develop wheel pants. I know this is a somewhat general question but I am
asking for suggestions (or pitfalls) and maybe pictures from those who have gone
before.
Thanks,
Bill McClellan

William,
The axle line relative to the CG position is quite far forward on the mono
Europa, which puts quite a load on the tailwheel. However, this is one
aspect of the Europa that the Factory were very happy with. It certainly
reduces the tendency to nose-over.

But certainly increases the tendency to ground loop, which often dings
the prop :-(

William,
If memory serves, I believe I once heard that the pants used on the
trigear are those which Bob B. originally designed and molded for his
conventional gear conversion.

Subject: | Antenna routing without effecting pitch trim indicator |
Was wondering specifics on wiring, how not to have radio transmission
effect pitch trim indicator?
Use of twisted Steinair servo wire?
Use shielded signal wire for indicator perhaps? Where to get or how to
make?
RG400 versus RG58?
Will have a Bob Archer antenna in rudder.
Thx. in advance.

I never noticed any RFI on my trim indicator even though I have
rg58u bundled all the way out past the trim motor/sensor.
Keep in mind Ron that the trim motor runs slowly and seldom will
you need to watch it move on the indicator while transmitting.
I use the trim indicator mostly to set takeoff trim, and feel to set
trim in flight.

Van's RV8 wheel pants seem to fit fine.

That would be true for the monowheel, with its unhelpful outrigger geometry
(i.e.outrigger axes well behind the mainwheel axle).

Hi Duncan
"That would be true for the monowheel, with its unhelpful outrigger geometry

Perhaps we should be thinking in terms of "Applied Arcaic Technology" and actually
attach a couple of axes forward on wing tips like WW1 Bi/Tri planes for beginners
(and those well experianced)! Kinda sortta in line with main wheel.
Real men need not be scared to hit brake if you are not going absolute straight!!
(Well, let's make that not too scared if you have training axes)
Do not arcive
