The 215 forecast shows any mist and fog clearing by 10 today. Maybe I'll be eating bacon butties on my own. No prob's, I need to use up my fuel. I am planning to take my bird home later this week for winterising & a few minor jobs so won't be out again. Cheers. Richard G-RIXS Hi Richard, Look's a bit iffy from Abbots Bromley, but Wednesday is looking good. regards Trev Pond G-LINN Checked by AVG - http://www.avg.com 12/14/2008 12:28 PM ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 06:40:32 AM PST US Subject: Europa-List: Mod 58 From: "flyingphil2" Hello All, My rebuild is now on to the trim tabs...... I understand that Mod 58 was the replacement fitting of the trim tab drive pins. Does anyone know why? I've looked in the factory newsletters and can't seem to find the reason for it. Thanks, Phil Visit - www.EuropaOwners.org ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 07:09:16 AM PST US From: "Brian Davies" Subject: RE: Europa-List: Mod 58 Phil, The original drive pin was welded to a thin steel plate. One of these pins became detatched due to fracture of the plate. The failure was attributed to the plate repeatedly bending, resulting in a fatigue failure. The replacement plate (Mod 58) is thicker and does not bend in service. The aircraft was on the ground when the failure occurred, probably during engin e starting, and the resulting behaviour of the aircraft in flight was to pitch nose up. The pit ch up force was containable by the pilot and a circuit and landing was succ essfully flown. The fracture was established to have been caused by fatigue due to repeated bending of TP16=A2s plate.- The bending that this plate had been subject ed to was likely to have been in excess of normal due to ibrations caused b y an engine starting problem. The aircraft had completed 426 hours of fligh t which included 895 take-off and landings. It is important that the cause of unusual vibrations, for example engine starting problems or an unbalance d propeller, are resolved at the earliest opportunity. --- On Mon, 12/15/08, flyingphil2 wrote: From: flyingphil2 Subject: Europa-List: Mod 58 Hello All, My rebuild is now on to the trim tabs...... The weather was OK from Manchester down to just north of Gloucester but completely clagged in to the south east. I did make an attempt but then turned back. I noticed that the mountains of Wales looked fairly spectacular on my way back, I reckon I could see Snowdon from about 100 miles away at 4000ft. I diverted for a few pics and landed at Caernarfon for the obligatory bacon buttie. I think I will leave the choice to Paddy from now on! A 'buttie' is Lancashire slang for a sandwich. Eating a bacon buttie is normal behaviour on a Drop of the Hat fly in over here. If you are feeling particularly enthusiastic you may even go for an egg and bacon buttie. If you haven't had one you are definitely missing something. Nothing better!! Having trimmed the bolt embedded in the inboard end of the aileron and fitted the flaps (including the inboard extension), I can't for the life of me see how one can attach the aileron to the wing with the flap already installed. For that matter, it appears to me that an aileron cannot be detached from the wing with the flap in place either in the retracted or deployed position. It appears that ailerons must be attached first, and then (and only then) the flaps can be attached in the deployed position. So my question is: If (for some reason) one would desire to detach an aileron from the wing, must the flap be detached first? (That seems to be the case for me, and I'm wondering if this is SOP or if I've screwed up somewhere along the line.)
