Hi again,
Today we finished the update of the specifications of all the models on the
Europa website. I would appreciate if you could give them a glance over and
let me know if in their opinion they reflect reality or not.
Thank you,
Dave

Dave-
Generally, very nicely done.=C2- I have a couple of comments.=C2- First
, there is also the=C2-conventional gear option available.=C2- Currentl
y Bob Berube is doing them, but you may wish to discuss marketing the kit t
hrough Europa also.=C2- I know that the parts procurement is a nuisance f
or him.=C2- Second, in terms of engines, there are several Jabaru engines
in use in the US.=C2- I know one of your guys in the UK had a tough time
with it, but the engine is still a good option and is 125 HP without super
charging.=C2- Also, I am not an authority on it, but I thought the 914 wa
s 125 HP.=C2-
My interest, as you may know, is getting an LSA wing option for the airplan
e.=C2- I have lost my physical and if I can't get it into an LSA category
, it is just a useless pile of fiberglass to me.
Good Luck -- Glad to see you working on it.

Subject: | Re: Has anyone landed 914 on pump #1 run by generator only? |
Ron,
Wire the 2nd boost pump as the Europa manual and Rotax Installation
diagrams indicate is light and simple with good redundancy. The only
deviations I do are in a dual generator setup when a 2nd battery and non
tied bus is used (you could call it an E bus) runs the other pump and
associated emergency electrics. The E bus derives power from the rotax
alternator, and the other pump off the main bus is charged by the belt
driven alternator. My other is to have a single small battery charged
off a shot key diode which drives the secondary pump. In the event of a
primary bus failure, you have to turn on the secondary pump and now have
a 30 minute battery to get you on the ground. You can get into endless
number of what if's in these scenarios and become the office of
redundant redundancy.
Many are flying with both pumps wired to the main bus. If the master
solenoid fails, and you use a relay to control the Rotax alternator, you
can loose fuel pump power permanantly if the main bus / master solenoid
fails.
The Europa/Rotax method is simple and it works.

Curiosity question. Has anyone had a failure where the only way you
could keep 914 running was by Europas schematic that has you wiring fuel
pump #1 direct to generator?
Thx.

Hi Dave,
I took a look at the "new" website specs. Nice. I'm glad to see that
Europa is no longer advertising 200 MPH cruise speeds, but I'd still argue
that 155 MPH at 75% power is a bit high. I'd be more inclined to say that
140 mph is closer to real experience. Also, I appreciate that "some"
builders can come in at 780 lbs empty weight, but I think if you check with
the Europa Club you'll see that the average is closer to 850 lbs. With full
upholstery, really good paint, and full instruments, speed mods, fairings,
wheel pants, etc., I think 875 to 900 is where you'll end up.
Keep up the fine work!
