Not all Germans are equal. ;-) Whereas BMW tended to be overly complex for those years, Mercedes tended to be straight forward and robust. I owned a BWM, but not very long. Swapped it for a Mercedes, and have since then been sold to the total lack of maintenance issues. Have never had to replace anything else than exaust, batteries, tires and brake pads, for 100.000's of Km's. Love old timers, but hate maintenance. My Mercedes is a 1975 3.0L diesel. Didn't do any maintenance on it since I started building my Europa. ;-) With the same color as the Europa, it makes an interesting combo if I transport the Europa. ;-) See picture. Cats love the good old Merc too. And yes, behind it you see indeed my Europa ready for being towed to the weighing facility ;-) -- Frans Veldman

Bob If you lower the cooler the only pipe fitting you need to change is the right angled connector. This is changed for a straight connector identical to the other end of the cooler. Europa has the fittings. Most builders find the pipe work is long enough and does not need to be replaced. I do agree. Merc is a a good towing machine also for me but that is only because my BWW has not a towing knob ;) ...and it is not a van! I prefer van because I want to keep the tailplanes inside - not on the trailer (what a horrible idea to keep them on the trailer!). Old Mercs are still mostly very robust (I have R107 450SL 1972 and today it started flawlessly after 6 months winter delay) but today BMW is only choise from German which makes sense (and only car brand which will survive through global financial low season without pains). All I have a problem - I cannot find any safe way to clean the wind shield. As you all know it gets very easily hair scratches. With those scrathes it is not fun to fly against sun - I do not wanna have them any more! Have seen nightmares "hey I am going to replace Europa=B4s windshield". I have tried to rinse it with plenty of warm water and cleaning detergents but that is not enough. I am not brave enough to wipe it clean or touch it at all. Insects are the main problem - as Bob and Ivor well know sometimes during summer here in Scandinavia exists two or even more little insects (they claimed mosquitos). How do you do the job? Raimo, I have used Plexus plastic polish. With a soft cloth it works great. Hi! Raimo What mosquitos? I thought they were helicopters !You said it was the Finnish Air Force, anyway they took a liking to my bad meat !! I use =93Clear View=94 Part No. AVL-CV-16 Http://www.avlab.com <http://www.avlab.com/> But I bought it at Oshkosh Airventure 2002 in an aerosol can and it is still good for many years yet. Be sure to use lots of soapy water to flush any grit / bugs away and dry off first. Raimo, I use the stuff recommended by LP Aero Plastics, the folks who make the windows for Europa (at least here in the U.S. anyway). Go to their web site ( http://www.lpaero.com/ ) and click on the "Products" tab. =46rom there go to the "Accessories" section. All their recommended products are listed and available there. I will also send a copy of their care and maintenance instructions directly to you. Thank you Ian I had been trying to keep the connection out of the duct but that may not h ave been the best idea. I am pleased to know I can exchange the bent connection for a straight one and will probably end up doing that - for cheapest approach at least!
