----- Original Message ----- From: "UVTReith" <uvtreith@t-online.de> Sent: Saturday, April 04, 2009 1:33 PM Subject: AW: Europa-List: Fw: List A - Fly-out David, Independent from that Fly out to Kyritz and Peenemnde I will invite ALL Europa Pilots to my location on the 21st of May. Therefore also pilots who only want to meet other Europa pilots can join. Attached now is my "Invitation Sheet" for this Fly In. I will send it now to the German speaking part of Europe (eMail list) and will issue it via matronics. I hope you like it. So some can stay for a longer while and some can make the trip to Kyritz and maybe can drop in again on the way back. How many that might be I have no idea!, but at a guess I would say possibly 2 or 3, possibly several more, but if the weather is not looking good that could easily turn to zero! Your plan sounds good to me and I personally hope to come, but I have a son who is seriously ill and it is possible that all my plans will be changed. I organise trips for the Europa Club and I will add a bit about your offer to the piece I am writing for the next Europa Flyer magazine which goes out to the 400 or so members at the end of March. I attach the draft piece. let me know if you have anything to add or change. Is your name Bruno Reith by the way? Meanwhile I have contacted Hubert Eckl for more detailed information and he was very pleased when a group of Europas would join. He also let me know that he would be very happy to have a go in a Europa. Now it is quite a long trip from UK, France, Belgium, Netherlands to this destination (see chart). He also let me know that he would be very happy to have a go in a Europa. Now it is quite a long trip from UK, France, Belgium, Netherlands to this destination (see chart). Therefore my suggestion (also to put myself under pressure and finish my baby): As my plane will get airborne in this springtime I will invite all Europa pilots to make a Fly-In on the 21.05.09 on my airfield. This day is called here in Germany "Himmelfahrt" (skydriving - direct translation!) and a holiday in Germany (and maybe in other countries too). So you can drop in during this day and we will have a barbeque evening on my airfield (I already have reserved this day as a Europa Fly-In day). We also have a nice club house, a camping site and some beds in our hangar. All meals and drinks (all kind of) will be free of course. We should just enjoy the meeting and have fun. The next day (Friday) the group can fly to Kyritz as the Friday is for Kyritz the Fly-In date and on Saturday the total "Kyritz" group will fly to Peenemnde. If this sounds good, we should continue with planning this trip. Hi Bob "check six" Borger and all This is my fuel selector back plate w blue "main", green "res" and red "closed" positions (one only). We have similar Europa type valves with two click-type off positions. You see it is impossible to select another (down) off pos because it is mechanically prevented. There are hundreds of different back plate arts - would be interesting to see them all! If you compare our pics there is also one other difference but that is for another topic. This topic will explode banks I am sure - so please find out your heart medicines. Coming back! I had to use a short extension between the selector and the valve to let the flap actuating rod pass. I may need to fit a transparent hinged cover for better elbow comfort, but I think the Andair selector, fitted in this location, has much better ergonomics than the standard XS factory arrangement. I tried sitting in the CM and operating the imaginary valve protruding from the tunnel down by my right hip and found it most awkward - I would not like to use it in an emergency. Andair caution against excessive operation of the valve dry (I ran some kerosene through mine for lubrication while I was fiddling about with the installation), but they don't seem to place any restrictions on operation once wet with fuel and in service. The checks I was taught on shutdown after pulling the mixture and the prop stopped were: "mags off, fuel off, master off". Likewise the before-start checks included "fuel on, to lowest tank" and the before-takeoff checks included "fuel on, to fullest tank". On some (C150) aircraft the school policy was to leave the fuel tap open, and I recall that on one of those I once tried to move the tap for some reason on the ground and found it was seized solid. Even so, we did touch drills in accordance with the above checklists even if the tap was not actually moved. regards Rowland -- | Rowland Carson http://home.clara.net/rowil/ | <rowil@clara.net> ... that's Rowland with a 'w' ...

Hi Raimo My Andair fuel valve is slightly different to Rowlands, Its off position is to the right,You are unable to shut it off unless you lift the centre pin, But you can move between Main and reserve very easily, In my opinion its idiot proof, I would highly recommend one to replace the standard europa valve, I normally close the valve after a flight, regards Ivor > >After flights do you close or not main fuel selector valve? > > > >I have elected to keep it always open > > >To prevent jamming or seizing I move it couple of times in a year > >between ON-RESERVE-CLOSED positions. > > >...

You can see more of the internal tunnel arangements in my build journal on my website. >In my opinion its idiot proof I felt I needed even more idiot-proofing, hence the desire to have the selector pointer pointing at the side the fuel is being drawn from.
