Subject: | Re: Monowheel Brake |
Hi,
I too have put my master cylinder on the control stick. I found that
Mountain bike brake specialist "Hope" made a lever with integral master
cylinder ideal for the job here in the UK. Mountain bikes are very light
these days and this was a beautifully engineered part.
I did look at the French one mentioned by Jacques but it was twice the
weight of the Hope offering. The Hope offering has no parking brake and
I find it a real nuisance not to have one. In hindsight I would
probably go for the French one which has an hydraulic shut off valve for
the park brake.
What I would say is that having a brake that can be operated by one
finger on the stick is a huge advantage. The safest place to do the
braking on my monowheel is just after touch down when there is still
bags of elevator authority. At this point it is better to concentrate on
flying the aeroplane than reaching out to operate a brake leaver on the
far side of the tunnel. Along with Jacques I find the braking a lot more
controllable too. The braking action more controllable too
Just my pennyworth.

David, It's worth saying that London includes Luton, who were very helpful
in testing mine, when I had been told that Heathrow were too busy!

Jacques,
>From my racing days I was suspect of using plastic tubing in a brake system and
others were reporting leaks with the Europa supplied parts. So, we replaced
the hose with stainless steel braided hose and the matching fittings during the
initial build. Got all the parts from McMaster. I can probably find the part
numbers if you need them.

Hi Gavin and all
I have a combination Ameri-King 350 encoder and Bendix-King KT76A/78A
transponder and have same sympthom as you eg a readout 200-300 feet too
low.
Also - like Bob - I hear a low blimb or so through my headset when in
C-mode and it is sending eg about once every two or three seconds.
What to do?

Subject: Europa-List: Transponder adjustment
Hi all.
Has anyone had any experience of adjusting the received output from
the transponder?
I'm running a Garmin 320A transponder through an Ameri-King 350
encoder. It works fine except that the receiving station is getting a
readout 300 ft low. (eg when I am at 5500ft, radar says I am at 5200ft)
There are a couple of adjustment screws on the encoder + & - . Has
anybody adjusted these and how sensitive are they?
Thanks, Gavin Lee ZK-EPA...55 hours and counting

Justin & Mike,
I (for one) would be most interested in seeing a photo of your
installations if you have one handy which you could post.
Thanks...Fred

Hi Jim,
I am really interested in part numbers for these fittings. Well, what is unclear
is how do you manage the fact that the brake calliper (slave) is moving with
the wheel when retracting it. I would be surprised if the stainless steel braided
hose is flexible enough. What kind of solution do you have there? A high
pressure flexible hose for some part ?
Thanks, Jacques.

Hi Jim,
Is http://www.mcmaster.com/#braided-hose/=210iuu the kind of tube that you are using? Thne it is clear that it is flexible.
Thanks, Jacques.

Subject: | XS Monowheel washer getting shaved from cable thimble |
I just finished installing tailwheel drive cables.
After a half dozen cycles starboard stop to port stop, I felt and heard something
scraping. It ends up that since the tailwheel cables are angled downwards at
~ 15 degrees from the rudder drive horn, the cable thimbles are point loading
the aft edge of the washer and beginning to shave off the edge.
I am sure it will wear where there is more contact but don't like it too much.
Wear will equate to less spring tension.
I have ~ 1/2" spring compression, makes no difference if I back off to 3/8" (I
have turnbuckles)
1) I am thinking about turning a washer that has a 15 degree taper and fit it above
the manual specified washer that is getting shaved. It would still allow
for clearance from the bottom of the rudder drive horn. Thinking to make it out
of stainless. Thoughts?
Thanking all in advance

Many thanks to those who replied re Rotax tacho - 200 ohm resister worked a
treat. Just put it across the terminals of the tacho rather than the coils as
pictured in the Rotax owners 'fix' document. Do believe we may be running short
of jobs to do.
