When I was sending the announcement to the Europa Club for inclusion in the Flyer, I checked with the lodge at Rough River. Our group is scheduled for Sept 18 & 19, so folks can arrive Friday 9/18 and depart Sunday 9/20. As I recall, they did not have rooms available the earlier weekends, so we all agreed on these dates. It will vary. Not just between individual tanks but with time. My total tank started out at 69 litres and swelled to 75 litres and then finally stabilised at 76 litres. Hi What battery is recomended for a 912 these days? I have had a red top for the last couple of years, but it no longer holds its charge. Great battery while it lasted but I thought it might have lasted longer. Rod ________________________________________________________________________ AOL Email goes Mobile! I just emptied my tank and re-filled 5 litres at a time to calibrate a fuel gauge. Topped out at 65 litres, although I might have had a 5% or so overfill with each 5 litre input. I think I recall that it was the orange wire which does the potentiometer information transfer? Mine is frozen in the fully up indication irrespective of where the flaps are. Can any one confirm? I have flight tested my new Mode S Garmin 328 Transponder and it works ...except neither Waddington nor Humberside ATC have the aircraft registration recognition to confirm that function is working OK ! It does have a radio interference problem in that there is an interrogation blip to be heard in the radio head sets which wasn't there on the Garmin 320 original set. Has anyone any suggestions? Brian had asked me to do some work on the membership database to clear some minor bugs (the world at large keeps coming up with things that I hadn't imagined might happen when I designed the system). I had been a bit tardy on getting the upgrade back to him and so once he got it he was rather working against the clock to get all pending Club admin out of the way before setting off for points North. regards Rowland -- | Rowland Carson LAA #16532 http://home.clara.net/rowil/aviation/ | 1280 hours building Europa #435 G-ROWI e-mail <rowil@clara.net>

Hi Group Rudder drive is nowcompleted in our XS Monowheel. First question is what would be a good lubricant to get rid of a squeek in the Tufnal rudder pedal bushings that would not swell them? Second question is the rudder cables themselves have a bit more friction than I would like where they run through nylon tubing (slight change in direction in some areas). What would be a good lubricant for rudder cable wire rope that would not hurt nylon? (Pointer finger can move rudder pedals, but not pinkey at moment, worst deviation is 8 degrees) Ron Parigoris

Subject: Re: Reduce speed in approach
Michel, Do I understand correctly that you wish to reduce the approach speed by extending the flaps further than is normally permitted on the monowheel? If so, from my experience, I do not see any simple means by which this can be accomplished. There is an adjustment available in the position of the FL21 "Horn" which can be used to allow a bit more flap movement. See page 28M-11. There is also some adjustment available in the "Fork Assembly" (175-601-208) which is installed at both ends of the "Flap Push Rod (FL20). See page 28M-17. These adjustments could be used to proved some limited additional flap extension, but probably at the cost of a less than fully retracted flap and some loss of cruise speed due to the added drag. I'm not sure how much approach speed reduction could be gained, but I expect it would be minimal. I guess you could also machine a new, longer, FL19 "Horn Plate" which would provide greater movement of the "Flap Push Rod" with further extension of the flap. Personally, I'd not recommend any of these modifications as you are treading in new, untested areas of Europa aerodynamics. Perhaps one of the more aerodynamically inclined folks can make a better judgement. Hi! Ron IMHO just use some very light oil in the Tufnol . and don't use any oil on the cables since it will collect grit and so cause wear. The newness will soon wear off and your feet and legs have much more power any way then of course you need to remember that you are stretching the springs on the pedal returns.
