BTW I observed a nasty issue when leaving the aircraft outside on a warm day, tank full (or close to). Fuel spills off the vent, for what I presume being a significant quantity (taints the paint, and significant traces on the ground). This drove me to the assumption that a significant empty space remains over the fuel, due to fuselage pitch on ground (3 wheels Europa's may not exert that). With warming, vapor tension increases and push fuel out into the vent. I feel this ceiling space is wasted, on top of the spillage issue. Probably a tube extending front from the vent port into the tank could permit carrying more fuel, while avoiding the warming issue. Has anyone already experienced and solved that? Many thanks in advance, Jean-Paul Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=249132#249132

You could use the same outlet, if you attach a small copper pipe to it, extending to the upper front of the tank. I'm doing that, because the tri-gear, while sitting on its trailer, is also resting with its tail down, and filling the tank while driving to the airport would give me the same problem. -- Frans Veldman

Although it is summer, temperatures are still unusually low here in the Netherlands. So when I had to bond something inside the cockpit, I put a small heater in it to get it cured. Temperatures went up to almost 40 degrees Celcius (which is just a tad over 100 F I think). After this, the gas struts started to pop out of their ball fittings. I got plastic end sockets with my kit. The temperature during the curing of the epoxy was way lower than you could expect during a summer day on the tarmac, so I guess this problem must not be uncommon. On the Europa website, I saw that they also offer metal end sockets. Has anyone experience with these? Would that be a cure for my problem? -- Frans Veldman

Frans- I just installed them and they will not come off the ball no matter what I try.=C2- There is a small clip on them that appears to hold the fixture t o the ball, but it still won't come off the ball when you remove it.=C2- They will probably fix your problem. That's what I had planned to do. Then found Bob Burbe with an XS exhaust that I though would work. Also picked up a trailer from him that was missing parts that I fixed. Muffler was too big for Classic cowling. Sold it on Ebay and broke even. Then decided to try and find a used one I could either use as-is or as a pattern to build my own. Found one in Austria in good shap (Klaus Dietrick) and was going to get it for around $215 with shipping but he later found out it was too big for the post office and the shipping went from $70 to a whopping $250. Guess I'm cheap. Couldn't see paying $250 shipping for a used exhaust that was $140. Tried to get him to cut the pipes so it would be small enough to mail. Told him I could easily weld them back, but he wouldn't do it. Go figure.... Now on to plan B or C or D........ I'm getting closer though. Let me know if you run across a cheap prop anyone might have. Guess I'll start with a Warp Drive when I find one for the right price. I would as Bob Borger what he's going to do with the one he bought, but from the looks of his first prop he might need to keep it as a spare.... Did you make it to Sun'n'Fun this year? I went planning to spend the week and was so disappointed with the show, new parking fee, and the lousy hotel I stayed in that I left after the 2nd day....... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff B" <topglock@cox.net> Sent: Friday, June 19, 2009 3:50 PM Subject: Re: Europa-List: Classic Exhaust > > Hey, Bill. Subject: brake line fitting
Hi guys... By any chance, can anyone give me the size of the brake line fitting which threads into the master cylinder? I'm wanting to switch out the Europa-provided master cylinder and lever for a Harley-Davidson lever/cylinder which would mount on the control stick which requires a 10 mm fitting on the end of the brake line; I'd like to continue to use the Europa-provided brake line. FWIW, the H-D part # is a 45013-93A (lever/master cylinder) along w/ a #45044-82 (clamp for a 1" dia. handle), and also requires two #4015 (bolts); quoted price was $169. and change. This component weighs 1.5 lbs. I went looking for alternatives after being quoted $375. for the HOPE mountain bike unit, the price seeming to be a bit over the top. The solution is actually in the latest CBM-16 build manual I got from the Europa website. [Embarassed] The vent fitting F09B mounting instructions now clearly shows that a 30cm aluminium extension tube must be bonded with Redux. This was not mentioned in my original Classic manual, and I just need to go for a retrofit. Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=249194#249194
