Hi, I think many of us have seen this issue of fuel venting on warm to hot days due to air/fuel vapour expansion. The cure (and it works fine) is to route the vent pipe from the tank, to the filler neck instead of the roof vent tube. Thus as fuel tries to vent overboard, as in the past, it now vents back into the tank. Saves the mess on the paintwork and also saves precious fuel!!! You will however still need to vent the tank, so a further connection into the filler neck now needs to be connected to the roof vent tube. A further refinement used by some is to move the roof vent tube to the bottom of the fuselage instead of the top. This later part of the mod ensures that if for any reason the aircraft ends up inverted, fuel does not run freely from the vent tube as it would if it remained on top of the fuselage. I think you will find this fix simple and very effective. Pete Jeffers ---Original Message----- From: owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of jpg12305 Sent: 19 June 2009 18:40 Subject: Europa-List: Re: tank size BTW I observed a nasty issue when leaving the aircraft outside on a warm day, tank full (or close to). Fuel spills off the vent, for what I presume being a significant quantity (taints the paint, and significant traces on the ground). This drove me to the assumption that a significant empty space remains over the fuel, due to fuselage pitch on ground (3 wheels Europa's may not exert that). With warming, vapor tension increases and push fuel out into the vent. I feel this ceiling space is wasted, on top of the spillage issue. Probably a tube extending front from the vent port into the tank could permit carrying more fuel, while avoiding the warming issue. Has anyone already experienced and solved that? Many thanks in advance, Jean-Paul Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=249132#249132 Checked by AVG - www.avg.com 06:53:00

    Subject: brake line fitting
Hi Mike, Thanks for the link to the MDO Aircraft brake fitting. It seems to be just what I am looking for. I have never been very happy with the standard brake master cylinder set up on my mono and this appears to be quite elegant. For those who need help with the French, Babelfish gives the following translation which can be decoded fairly easily. MASTER CYLINDER OF BRAKE TO THE HANDLE Weight: 265 G Price: 184 (1207 FF) Envisaged to be gone up vertically on the handle, it comprises one tank integrated to optimize its obstruction. A device of blocking makes it possible to fulfill the function brake of park Its assembly is easy using a support which makes it possible to fix it on handle. APPLICATIONS: This master cylinder is particularly used on mono apparatuses coils (Europa or sailplane); he equips also the machines has combined caster for which directing braking is not necessary. BODY: Built out of alloy 5754, C `is a part entirely machined in the anodic mass then. It is reamed has a diameter of 12.5 mm in order to realize an optimal reduction with clamps MDO PISTON: Out of light alloy high efficiency, (7075 A), it receives one anodization lasts which enables him to support a great number of operations under constraint. The sealing is entrusted has a set of cups in assembled EPDM out of tandem. TANK: Integrated into the body of the transmitting cylinder, it forms integral part of the unit. It is equipped with a visible gauge of level with outside. LID: Out of light alloy (2017 A) anodic of red color, it is provided with a joint and an opening of vent. BRAKE OF PARK: After the pressurization of the circuit by the lever the main thing, an eccentric has hand drive operation comes to immobilize it in its position. A simple news pressure on the lever releases it its thrust. By the way on another subject, I have now flown 53 Young Eagles in my trusty Europa. Much better solution. Mike...very elegant indeed. Re: the brake line, I take it that the included braided hose was long enough for your installation...(?). And John...thanks for the translation to English...not quite so elegant, but valuable and amusing! Hi Would this solution work in the Classic original setup ? assuming you run the vent pipe to the top of the filler pipe in the alloy receptacle Tim Houlihan. Tim On second thoughts, I'd replace the big hose in the Classic with an aluminium tube, help to get rid of the fuel smell too! Graham

Hi Graham That sounds like a good idea. What wall thickness do you think would be required to allow the fuel hose to be clamped to the alloy tube at the elbow? I am happy to let you know we had today "Europa 4-seater flight". That has been my dream since I started building 1999. Actually, there were my daughters Tuuli 8 years and Merete 5 years. Me and my wife omboard with full thank TOW was 656 kgs (1443 lbs). My MTOW is 658 kgs (1450 lbs). Our CofG was well between limits (almost center because added Airmaster prop hub 7 kgs (15,4 lbs)). Everything went WELL and there were not any problems. Children had fun - Europa is a real family machine! I am going to have a 4-place intercom next. My Europa will be permitted (in this country) for 4-seater (actually 2+2), max 60 kgs (132 lbs) on the back seat (with certified seat belts). So, Europa XS is almost like that French fun machine Dyn Aeros 4s... Raimo OH-XRT
