I bought one but when I came to load the software I was greeted by a warning that the software had not been passed as being compatible with Windows XP and that it was strongly recommended that I terminated the installation. I spoke to Maplin and they said that I should go ahead (as they would do) but I was not prepared to take the risk, and so I have returned the scope. It is a pity because it would be a great improvement on the mirror and torch technique normally employed for inspection of inaccessible parts of aircraft. If enough people buy them and then return them perhaps Maplin will get around to having the software approved. I bought the camera you are talking about and installed the software, it wo rks perfectly with no untoward effects on either of my computers. You are correct though, it is a great improvement on the torch and mirror. regards, Mike (G-JULZ... ready to go, awaiting paperwork.) do not archive --- On Mon, 24/8/09, Roger Anderson wrote: From: Roger Anderson Subject: Europa-List: Maplin Snake Scope =0A=0A =0A =0A=0AThe snake scope advertised by Maplin was =0Amentioned on t his forum recently. Undoubtably...I do try to keep open flames around Ms. Europa to a minimum... Sorry my British friends...just couldn't help myself. :-))) Fred do not archive ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 03:22:05 PM PST US Subject: Re: Europa-List: Maplin Snake Scope From: Andrew Sarangan It is a standard warning for any software that is not formally approved by Microsoft. I am not sure what's special about this bore scope. If you google "fiber optic inspection scopes" you will find plenty, and most of the ones I've used don't need a computer. It is a snake with a lens on one end. On Mon, Aug 24, 2009 at 5:18 AM, Roger Anderson wrote: > The snake scope advertised by Maplin was mentioned on this forum > recently.
