Frans- .....Looks like this thread is slowed (for now). Its just a matter of looking for the best way to do things. I think we all strive for that, while building our Europa. Yes, I believe you are right here, except for shortwave. My goof. My punishment is banishment to the dungeon, with only a little daylight through a small window, for a few days while I do some more research. Greg >>the overall height of the Marconi antenna is only half the >> equivalent overall height of the Hertz antenna. >No, this is not true.

to and from the UK Hi! All UK and European Pilots/ visitors. I have always had an inclination to forget the procedure concerning Customs and Immigration. So to help me not have to ask other obliging friends I contacted the HM Revenue & Customs. One of their staff has already compiled such a summary into leaflet form, a copy of which I will scan and attach to this message for the benefit of others who may be somewhat dazzled by the mere mention of the words HMR&C. I hope that none of the regular fliers can pick holes in it! There's useful phone/fax numbers on it anyway. Regards Bob Harrison G-PTAG PS Incidentally Switzerland and Norway are not in the "European Club" and don't anyone get the idea that "Stalwart Anti EU Bob" is softening his principles!

A friend of mine with an ARV needs to replace the spark plug caps on his Rotax 914. He was horrified to find that Rotax price them at =A333 each. At the moment only 2 of the caps are loose but he had planned to change all 8 but at that price he is having second thoughts. Has anyone found a cheaper source? Such a high price is a ridiculous rip off. Regards Nigel Charles

Try a motocycle shop. I seem to remember seeing a note from someone with the same problem and found they were very cheap relative to the Rotax price. Can' t remember what type mortorcycle, but I would guess BMW. Has anyone found a > cheaper source? Such a high price is a ridiculous rip off. It is all down to how easily they fit on the ht cable. And if it is certified or not ! NGK sell plug caps : http://www.startright.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2309 Also see http://www.sparkplugs.co.uk/pages/technical/ngk-plug-cap-code.htm Now the plug caps we use are for the threaded top plugs, but the same plugs are available with a "nipple" on it, which would allow the use of a more conventional plug cap. Of course if his plug caps are loose, is there any chance he can "tighten them up" !!! (as he wil have to tighten up the new plug cap(s) ! RFWH

Nigel, search for a local motor factor that is an agent for Nippon Denso plugs. I used to pay arround =A320 for a box of 10! Geoff Leedham ----- Original Message ----- From: nigel charles To: Forum Europa Sent: Thursday, September 03, 2009 4:59 PM Subject: Europa-List: Spark plug caps

The part number on is VDO5FMH which ties out with the codes on startright's WEB site so it looks like it might be a standard part.

Nigel, ignore last message, I misread the post and assumed plugs. You should still be able to get them from a motor factors though. I went to a Honda motor cycle shop with one of the NGK spark plug caps off my 914.-Make sure the replacement has the 5 ohm resistance in the cap. I paid about 4.00 US dollars for each cap. The Rotax dealer here in Florida c harges 50.00 per cap.... Way beyond price gouging. X-mailer: iAVMailScanner 1.5.7.1 We have been flying for the last 5 years with the bakelite versions of the original NGK rubber plug caps, sourced from a local motor factor shop - cost about =A33.00 each. The impedance is the same as the originals - the ones we have are angled at 45 degrees (same angle as the rubber ones) though im sure the 90 degree ones would work as well. I spent months trying to find the rubber equivalents but it seems nobody markets them except Rotax at the unbelievable rip off prices they charge. I dont make a habit of accusing Rotax or Skydrive of extortionate prices but on this occassion its hard not to. Personally I cant see any advantage of the rubber caps over the bakelite (apart from them being certified).
