Ira I also used the R9 Gates fuel injection hose in March this year to repl ace all of the old- fuel line hose. - I had the same results, the fuel smell went away. - Jim Brown 914 monowheel. --- On Thu, 9/10/09, rampil <ira.rampil@gmail.com> wrote: From: rampil <ira.rampil@gmail.com> Subject: Europa-List: Re: Pipe clamps I do not believe the odor of mogas that has always been presenct in my Euro pa emanates from any of the connections of the hose to connector hardware. Rather some volatile components of the fuel seem to permeate through the ho se itself.- When I replaced the factory supplied Gates R7 spec hoses this year with Gates R9 hose, the smell of fuel was quite a bit reduced. R9 hos e is fuel injection rated hose with a specified lower permeance to fuel (al so, longer working life). I used bare hose aft of the tank selector switch, and stainless braided forward of the switch and throughout the engine comp artment. Yes, the better grade of hose helped, Now I guess I just have to wait for my fingers to heal from mashing on all that stainless braid ;-) -------- Ira N224XS Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=262569#262569

Remi, If or when we get another hot day I will give this a whirl and record the numbers for all. Maybe at Rough River if it's nice. Best, Jeff R. Subject: Antennas
For those interested I have constructed and fitted a full wave loop antenna as per Dave Morris's designs located here. http://www.davemorris.com/dave/MorrisDFLoop.html I hooked up my hand held scanner to the loop comm antenna today, and the initial results are excellent. I appear to be getting better reception on the ground in my closed workshop than i have had in most of the aircraft i have flown, while airborne. the ATIS info from the airport 40km away is so strong I cannot cut it out even with FULL squelch, likewise aircraft transmissions from areas 25km the other side of the airport (based on airspace freq, Parachute drop at a field I know well) are nice and clear. The antenna still has to SWR'ed in yet, and is approximately 2 inches too long. oh the aircraft is presently facing more or less east, and the airport is due south of me, so the ATIS and the aircraft mentioned is virtually all side lobe reception. The loop fits neatly round the fuselage about 100mm behind the baggage bay bulkhead total cost for this was about $5 if you are counting your pennies that hard. Craig kit 577 VH-XSV
