Dear All, Today at 12.15 Europa Mono #103 took to the skies in the very capable hands of Nigel Charles who kindly accepted the responsibility of conducting the test flying schedule. The initial flight lasted 20 minutes, followed by one hour with myself in P2 and by some miracle very few problems were apparent. If I had ever deluded myself I had built it single handed, it could not have been with without much guidance and support from many, but in the main to the likes of Neville who put me straight on many technical aspects as well as signing off the plane. Without this technical support the project would have been a lot harder. Why is this man not still working at the factory?! Now looking forward to getting to the D.O.T.H.'s and not asking Paddy to take his plane apart any more so I can see how he did his fuel system! Richard Scanlan #103 Mono Rotax 912s _____ .. The port inboard aileron hinge is particularly worn and the other hinges are less so. I'm keen to avoid having to drill out and disbond the halves of each hinge which attaches to the aileron itself. I've heard of a fix involving teflon sleeving and stainless steel pins and would like to learn more about this, or any other safe fixes. Please send you responses to Jonathan Milbank jdmilbank@hotmail.com. Many thanks. A U.S. individual used to sell kits comprising Teflon sleeving and stainless steel piano wire matching our hinges, to PREVENT wear but not to make up for any already existing wear. I purchased some of his last stock a year ago, and he told me that he was to discontinue this side-line business. I am presently not at home but I'll try to find his name and number when I get home over the week-end, in case you wish to contact him to see if he has anything left over. Instead of replacing the worn hinges, I fitted an additional hinge close to the outer end of each aileron. I think the original position of the outer hinge was too far from the end, this new hinge stiffened the aileron and makes it feel "right". On all other hinges (including the trim tabs) I put in Teflon sleeves and the new pins made from the piano wire. I was not able to pull out the original pins from the rudder hinges, they were all glued to one of the hinge halves during fitting of the hinges (before I learned how to do it properly!).
