Dear Listers, There are just a few more days left of this year's List Fund Raiser! Response has been very good, but still well behind last year. If you've been waiting until the last minute to make your contribution and maybe even pick up a great gift, now might be good time to show your support! Please remember that there isn't any sort of commercial advertising on the Lists and the *only* means of keeping these Lists running is through your Contributions during this Fund Raiser. Please make a Contribution today! http://www.matronics.com/contribution Thank you! Matt Dralle Matronics Email List Administrator

Greetings to all from Kenya. Kenya Europa classic monowheel 5Y-LRY has been flying 10 years now (550 hours), and the retract bungee is getting tired. After takeoff and climbout at 70 knots the pressure on the flaps helps the retract process, but the retract lever needs a good shove into the forward recess. It would seem that changing the bungee is really quite a nightmare, and perhaps I can stave this off for a year or two by retensioning them (I have never done this before). Has anyone tried this? How much life can I expect on retensioning? All the best Richard Classic 168 .

Hi Richard Had the same problem last year on my classic #109. If you remove the exhaust and the metal firewall it is easy enough to get at. The whole job to replace with new bungee took only an afternoon. Hi Richard, After about 8 years service on my Mono I carried out a re tensioning of the bungies without too much drama. I seem to recall being able to tighten to the extent of getting another complete wrap around the frame.ie two extra strands. It made a great improvement to the retraction process. The difficulty is distributing the re tensioning to all the strands. You will probably need to remove the stainless or Singleton fire bulkhead in order to get sufficient access. Re tensioning the Mono bungee is easy easy compared with tightening the tri gear bungee. No, you don't need to make the transition smooth or tight. The factory standard is certainly neither. If, on the other hand you wish to be industrious and make the air transition a low energy passage which is air tight, you will gain up 1 inch of additional ram air pressure in the manifold providing extra power and higher service altitude. Hi! Richard, the best way to add tension is to buy a pair of rope clamps as used by mountaineers. You can use two by pulling down on one and pushing up on the other to gradually work some slack from the middle to the end on both sides in turn. I don't know what the correct name is but they only allow the bungee to slip in one direction. Try a mountaineering shop to buy. It is a pig of a job and you need shoulder muscles like "popeye"! We are all going to soon need to replace our 121.5 MHZ ELTs with the newer 406 models.=C2- I bought an Ameri-King AK-450 two years ago based on thei r statetment at that time that they would have a 406 "conversion" available at a later date.=C2- I called about the "conversion" today and was told that the 406 unit was $849, but they would gladly give me $50 credit for my AK-450.=C2- I guess they define conversion as conversion from my pocket to theirs.=C2- Buyer beware! So far as I know, they are a SA company. They were formerly attached to a US company who service address was the CEO's home address. Now I think they have a new service and support company in the States. I have actually used an MGL FF-2 fuel computer before I figured out how to make my Floscan talk to my BMA. The FF-2 was inexpensively made but functioned very well. Ira -------- Ira N224XS Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=274015#274015

correct name "jumars" or "shunts" in the uk...dunno what they are in the US you could probably use a prussic loop (ask a climber) which can be made out of a loop or para cord has very similar action to the above Will Robert C Harrison wrote: > > Hi!
