Subject: | [Please Read] - Last Official Day of List Fund Raiser! |
Dear Listers,
Its November 30th and that means at least two things. For better or worse, its
my 46th birthday! But it also means that its that last official day of the
Matronics Email List Fund Raiser! If you been jones'n over one of the really
nice gifts that are available this year with a qualifying Contribution, then now
is the time to jump on one!!
If you've been meaning to make a Contribution this month but have been putting
it off for some reason, NOW is the time!
I will be posting the List of Contributors in a few days, so you'll probably want
to be known as a person that supported the Lists!
I want to thank everyone that has so generously made a Contribution so far this
year in support of our Lists. It is your generosity that keeps this operation
a float and I don't ever forget it. Hopefully everyone feels the same.
The List Contribution Web Site is fast and easy. Please support our habit by making

For those brave souls who are contemplating Mod 71 (Nose suspension
springs) on a completed Europa, here are some hard won useful tips:
1) Make sure both springs are attached to the mid (upper) frame bar
before attaching either spring to the lower bar! If you do not heed this,
there is a good chance the lower bar will be torqued and rotate, forcing
the stop beam laterally toward the unattached spring side. There will then
not be enough room on the upper bar between the vertical struts and the
stop bar to engage the upper hook of the spring.
2) If the spring will not fit the space provided at the top, intentionally
banana the spring at the top, pointing forward by removing the top three
helical ring spacer bolts.
3) Use a liberal number of AN5 bolts with the suggested AN4 spacer bolts.
4) Have Antiseptic spray handy for the excoriated dorsums of your hands.
5) This experience is a good opportunity to practice and expand your
salty vocabulary.
6) Have a 1" diameter pry (wrecking) bar handy!

Sorry if you had a hard time doing Mod 71. I can tell you that it is much
easier when you have practiced a few times.
It does say on page 2 "Wear protective gloves and use extreme care".
If you think there is something worth adding to the instructions let me know
and I can add them.

Hi Ian!
Since the directions on the company site are sketchy, I would
include the warning about tensioning one side before the second
is hung!
I found the AN5 bolts helpful without them creating a detectable set in the
springs. I used 5 or 6 of the 13 bolts per spring.
Bud Yerly also has additional suggestions including fabricating a
0.016" stainless or aluminum shield over the top of the top bar
and under the bottom to prevent scoring.
