Don't forget that pre shaped panels are available on the Europa factory
web site.

What about Carbon fiber sheeting. You will have a ready made finish if you like
the carbon fiber look.

Subject: | Brake Fluid Choice |
Hi all
A bit more help needed
My trigear (under construction) is fitted with the original factory
finger brake conversion.
An earlier post suggested these were from Jamer Performance and fitted
with Buna N seals.
The earlier post suggested that Dot 3,5,or 8 specification would be OK
but the present Jamer site only lists DOT 3 or 4.
The other brake parts (calipers and parking brake valve) seem to be from
Matco who only recommend Mil-H-5606 although DOT 5 has been suggested
elsewhere.
So I am a bit confused and any guidance would be appreciated.
Regards

Hi
I'm a bit more advanced with my finger brake problem now but what has
come up is the quality of the original Jamar part and its suitability
for the Europa particularly if silicone based brake fluid has to be
used.
It seems some owners have changed the Jamar products to modified toe
brake cylinders and then used standard red brake fluid.
Any information on this subject would be helpful.

I had endless problems with my Jaymar cylinders, problems bleeding air,
sticking pistons etc. and eventually threw them away and replaced them with
a pair of Matco ones from the factory. I used the standard red brake fluid
in them and haven't had any problems since. Would not recommend using the
Jaymar based on my experience.

Guy's,
Unless you want to spend extra money I would do as others have done.
Take the Jaymar cylinders completely apart. Get some carb or choke
cleaner and a small soft round brush and clean all the crap out of
them, put them back together and they'll work fine. It seems there was
a bad batch of these. There was a thread on this a few years back, but
as soon as I cleaned mine they have been working perfectly ever since.
I used a matco emergency brake also with the dot 5 and it works great.
The small bleeder screws leaked a bit letting air in the system but a
little gasket seal on the threads fixed that. Working great for 3
years now.

David Hi!
I fitted the original Matco Foot Brake cylinders to Trigear G-FIZY I built.
I fabricated a bracket, ensured there was a removable panel above the bleed
screws and it worked well. My only recommendation would be to ensure levers
are long enough, probably about 9=B2 but just as important is to ensure knob
or handle ends are big enough for a good grip or action. There was a
requirement to ensure correct rubber seals were used for different brake
fluids. I used the =8Cred=B9 Dot 5....I think! Europa supplied the rubbers.
Photos attached. The Brake Levers in photo proved too short (action
difficult) so were extended by about 4=B2.

Re: Europa-List: Finger Brakesgerry,
is that a parking brake valve you have there, mounted next to the
cylinders, if so would you mind sharing the source,
Like you i used the matco cylinders and the original mounts inverted and
mounted in the tunnel. I then added another bracket
to either side to take the throttle and IFA levers.

Craig Hi!
That is a Parking Brake fitted beside the two Brake Levers.
The idea was to allow one handed ON or Off operation. When the levers were
short it worked OK but once they were extended the reach required from one
hand didn=B9t allow it. The Park Brake Unit was a 06-17200-MATCO BRAKE PARKIN
G
VALVE-$113.95 from Aircraft Spruce.
The Hand operated Brakes take a little getting used to initially but after
a
short time it works out. The brake discs seem to need to be worn in pretty
well as well.
After that you can establish safe taxi speed and use the rudder for many
fine adjustments in direction.

Gerry

We are into our instrument panel mounting and modifying at the
moment.
Anyone install an easy to use for pilot on port side
drink holder that perhaps folds away and looks not too cheezy?
Any details would be appreciated.
Thanking in advance.
