Synthetic or semi synthetic and allowing proper cool down helps to prevent. There are three basic taps, taper (7 to 10 chamfered threads), plug (3 to 5) and bottoming (1 to 2). When tapping into a blind hole the bottoming tap is preferred if you want threads almost to the bottom (duh!). It is not as easy to get a bottoming tap started by hand, and the chips tend to get jammed into the bottom of the hole so it may take a few "ins and outs" to get the job done. You cut the tip of tap off so it won't bottom out. So you are cutting the top part of the threads wider to accept "our" pipe thread. But the banjo fitting looks very nice too... The control column mounted master cylinder is beautifully made. Unfortunately, M. Bastien provided a caliper fitting that consisted of an AN9186 Nipple (Flared Tube to Pipe Thread) to replace the existing 90 degree fitting and then put a 90 degree AN hose end fitting on the end of the hose. See pic: The AN fitting is NPT (National Pipe Thread), which is a tapered thread. The 90 degree fitting that came off the caliper was a straight thread so the AN fitting only goes in about 2 threads and quits. That's not really acceptable. A banjo hose end like yours, Mike, would be perfect but I can't find one over here on this side of the pond. Tomorrow, I'll be posting more pics on my build site showing how the hose end of the banjo should be configured as it's not a (U.S.) typical 37 degree AN type fitting. If there's anyone out there in Europe or the U.K. that can find the correct fitting, I'd sure be glad to pay for it as well as postage to send it to me. Thanks in advance! (See attachment) I think M. Bastien of MDO Aircraft is based in Biarritz. I do know that some of our colleagues on this site have had trouble contacting him. A French person in France may have better luck. Bob, I'll see if I can find the details of the banjo fitting. I might have to go back to the shop on Monday. Regards, Mike.
