My replacement behaved just as yours is doing. We eventually noticed that the lugs that pop out to lock it in place were slightly protruding even when open and a couple of minutes with a file solved the problem. Don't ask. I put a replacement cap on and it has stuck ever since I have to use a sc rewdriver as a lever to prise it off.
