Hi Jeff, Kevin is correct that the master cylinder slopes with the fluid outlet at the top, so when you fill the system from below through the bleed nipple it's difficult to get all the air out. The Europa brake bleeding kit contains a small aluminium reservoir that screws into the fliier hole in the master cylinder, and this really makes the process much easier - it was the only way I could successfully bleed the system. Just fill from the bleed nipple with the supplied syringe until the fluid level is about half way up the reservoir, tighten the bleed nipple, then pull the brake lever until no more air bubbles through the reservoir. Then slowly release the brake making sure that the fluid level in the reservoir stays above the bottom. The whole system should then be filled with fluid. Suck the excess from the reservoir with the syringe, remove and screw the cap back on and you're done. It's a 5 minute job with the kit and I would really recommend it. No financial interest ! Hi Jeff, My mono-wheel brake was leaking a bit of fluid and not holding pressure well. Turned out to be the O-ring seal. We removed the brake from the disc and used a rubber tipped compressed air gun to push the "puck" out of the slave cylinder. Then we saw the o-ring to replace. It looked like it was leaking from the bleed screw simply because the bleed screw is the lowest point to drip from. When the mono is sitting tail down the master cylinder in the tunnel is at an angle with the filler low. I needed to raise the tail (or unmount the master cyl) to get the air out. Messy job eh? It is that epoxy does not form even a somewhat adequate bond to any unabraded glossy phenolic firewall material. The bond is almost non existant compared to that of an otherwise epoxy to unabraded epoxy bond. So leaving any glossy phenolic surface unabraded is well more detrimental to the overall bond than leaving some unabraded area under a epoxy to epoxy lay up. I still consider that on the areas where only one ply of glass/epoxy is over the foam sandwich, one has to be careful not to sand off too much of that single ply to get down to a complete abraded surface, not so on the phenolic firewall material. The front (engine side) of the firewall, requires less sanding and material removal to get below the glossy surface, as it is smooth having been against the mould in the original lay up, compared to the less smooth firewall backside with its depressions from the embedded woven material. So you just have to remove more material on the firewall backside to get below all the gloss for an adequate bond. Contamination on surface was not the culprit in my case. Though removal of real or potential surface contamination is alway a necessary step in bonding preparation. In this case I left the cellophane on top as I used the instrument panel against it to establish the mating of the flange and the panel. No peel ply used. I would guess that if any mold release was used in the original creation of the fire wall, it was on the other side, in any case as usual, I took the surface down to newly exposed material. I have tried to separate or pry off an epoxy to epoxy surfaces before and it is undoable, but has to be sanded or ground off. I have also had to remove a reduxed phenolic pad and it also can only be ground off. Maybe it only leaves to do another test lay up as aga ! > in see if I can pry it off. >Thanks, >Bill McClellan > > ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 01:23:26 PM PST US From: Rowland Carson Subject: Europa-List: europa club subs renewal problems Some people have had problems in logging in to the Europa Club susbscriptions renewal pages. I have identified a couple of specific problems and am working to correct them. One issue that caused difficulties for the Membership Secretary is that a number of people have let their membership lapse and then later tried to re-join the Club as new members, rather than renewing their previous membership. This has led to duplicate records in the system. When they came to renew the next year, the system could not tell which record was correct and so was unable to respond properly. Creation of a duplicate identity in this way causes a lot of bother and much manual work in sorting it out. Please, if you have ever been previously a member of the Club and want to renew after a lapse, contact the Membership Secretary for details of how to do it. (If you have your last renewal reminder, it should contain all the info you need to log in to the renewal area.) I have done some forensic work on the database and have now found and corrected duplicate records for the following names: Foulke Lamprey Ward Lowe Ashfield Mumtaz-Ahmad Vranken Wighton Hendra Glowa Wheelwright Crowe If any of you folk above have been trying to renew online and failing, the system should now work for you. A different problem is affecting people with accented characters in their names. Something (a system update somewhere, perhaps) has affected the transfer of such names between different parts of the system with the result that they have become corrupted. It appears to be some change in the character set representation by some part of the system but it is proving difficult for me to trace the source of the problem and cure it. So, if your name has accented chracters in it (such as acute, grave, umlaut, etc) it is possible that you may not be able to log in to the renewal pages. Please be patient - I will try to fix it as soon as I can, and will announce the fix on this forum. Finally, if there are any folk out there who could help in the maintenance of the database system, I would love to hear from you as I'm getting quite overwhelmed with other things at present and could really use some help. It would be good if you already know something about FileMaker Pro, MySQL and PHP, but tuition is available! in friendship Rowland -- | Rowland Carson ... that's Rowland with a 'w' ... | http://home.clara.net/rowil/ | Skype, Twitter: rowland_carson Facebook: Rowland Carson | pictures: http://picasaweb.google.com/rowlandcarson ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 02:01:53 PM PST US From: "Bud Yerly" Subject: Re: Europa-List: Europa Monowheel Brake Problem? For some reason the list did't except my e-mail address anymore so I had to sigh up again. On to the reason of this post. I believe there we're two different things causing my problem but anyway my problem has been resolved. Not only was there a bad connected ground... I believe when I quit cooling the regulator it may have taken it's tole on it as well. Just to clarify some time ago there was some discussion on making sure the regulator was not getting very hot so I took the precaution and ran a small scat tube up from the bottom NACA I wasn't using. About a few months back I didn't re- connect it thinking it wasn't necessary. Needless to say thats when I started noticing this problem. Coincidence? After fixing the ground I re-connected it as I was trying to cover everything. Put 2 or 3 hours on it last week before I left for a trip. I left it sit while I was traveling. Flew it some more when I got back. Just connected the tester to the battery and it's holding 12.7 amps and is at 90%. Before after a few flights it was down to about 30%. So there it is. Not sure if the cooler regulator had anything to do with it, but it was still not charging correctly after I fixed the bad ground. I will keep you all posted if you like but this time it really looks like I'm good to go. Thanks very much for all your help. Jeff R.
