I would like to thank Richard Holden with his bird and Bob Hitchcock with G-BYSA for supporting our event sorry we didn't meet up Bob) Obviously the weather on Saturday was very detrimental but we had good gate sales. Gerald Cooper UK Aerobatic Champ and seventh in the world rankings gave us a stunning display and the Liverpool Modelers club flew a Victor and two Lancasters the Victor sound was very appropriate but whilst the Lancasters looked the part too the sound was somewhat lacking ! However when we had the "City of Sheffield Real Lanc doing about half a dozen fly pasts doing almost a "wing over" there was no doubting it's authenticity. However where were the rest of you ? or daren't you venture North of Watford! Please put us down for next year. Regards Bob Harrison G-PTAG

HI All, Here is the most up dated list I have. Is there anyone out there that knows how to reach any other Europa flyers. Can anyone tell me if DR. Alex Bowman can be reached. It would be really cool to have his Honda powered Europa there!! I know the west coast is a long was away but I believe we have some more out there. How about you north east guys? Rough River has everything right there. Restaurant / Lodge, Cabins, Big Lake, Golf, Camping and it's all within walking distance of the runway. Are any of you Florida people coming up? Jeff R. Subject: Baggage bay strengthening for gear
Maybe I should rephrase my question. Instead of what the manual is saying, what did people actually do with the uni? Is it really meant to be only on the rear bulkhead only, with no overlapping onto the side bulkheads? If in doubt, I am talking about the strengthening the baggage bay 'box' to be used for the gear, and am really only looking for verification , of what others have done, before doing the layup, so as not to mess it up. There might be more than one way to do it. Any of my questions answered will help... So: How many 'faces' of the 5 sided box have people put the 'uni' in when they installed the gear? Hey, no question is a dumb question, if you're not quite sure what the manual is saying, is it? -----Original Message----- From: owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Greg Fuchs Sent: Monday, June 21, 2010 3:22 PM Subject: Europa-List: Baggage bay strengthening for gear --> <gregoryf.flyboy@comcast.net> Hi all, My question pertains to which surfaces are covered for strengthening, in the baggage bay. After searching the list, no answer was found. It makes me wonder what it is, I am not seeing. A) '2 plies of bid at +/-45 degrees over the entire area of the baggage bay up to the level of the top of the central tunnel.' This one seems self explanatory: 2 plies to 5 faces of the baggage bay: front, rear, sides, and bottom. B) (and my question #1) 'Next add 2 plies of 'uni', to the same height, onto the baggage bay rear bulkhead from the sidewall to the central tunnel, with the fibres running spanwise.' #1 Does this mean uni is only on one face of the baggage bay (the rear face), and no overlap on the two side faces or bottom face? OR Does this mean uni is placed on 3 faces of the baggage bay (rear and sides), with no overlap to the bottom and front faces ? OR Something else?? #2 Is there any builder out there, that was able to massage the two plies of BID over the whole of the baggage bay 'well', without any cutting or folding? I look forward to some help here, Greg

greg I read it as your option #1. and to answer your question about the bid in one piece for the whole job in the well, yes i managed it, but some of it was rather stretched and other bits compressed, but not folded, one little trick i worked out, if you have access to plastic shopping bags, I had about 200 used ones in the cupboard, i stuffed them into the well till i couldnt fit any more then put a lump of lead in there for good measure, after i did the layup, other than the small lines in the resin from the plastic bags, it came out looking like it was vaccum bagged. another trick i have discovered for those difficult bits where the glass wants to lift, if you cover the job in plastic and then compress a piece of sponge rubber onto/into the offending hole the job again comes out like a vaccum bag job, excess resin is forced out as well as the air, leaving a beautifull job. or atleast that has been my experience regards craig

Hi Folks, It seems the weather should last until the weekend, so how about a DOTH? Unusually there is a voucher for Gloucestershire in Flyer and I suggest there at 1200ish, meeting in the cafe/pub just outside the terminal. All the best, Paddy Paddy Clarke Europa G-KIMM

requirement Hi Luc, I have some data from the UK that satisfied transport with regard to the firewall. All the Canadian registered Europas have been approved with the composite material, so it should not be a problem. You will need to install a carb heat system, the antiquated regulations call for a system that introduces hot air into the carbs, however eventually I got an approval for the Skydrive system that uses coolant to heat the carb body, so again transport should be fine with this. I would recommend that you get a local Rotax dealer to install the unit for you. Craig, So uni is only on the rear 'face' of the gear well. Suprising it doesn't lap onto the sides at all. Since you were able to make it work, I think I will go the non-cut route then, for the glass in the well. I like your plastic bag solution. I saw it, while searching the site extensively about my 'uni' question. I don't have as many plastic bags, so I think I will replace most of the bags with old newspaper, leaving bags on the edges. Should make for a neat job. Thanks for the info. requirement As dave says=2C the firewall shouldn't be a problem. You don't need a carb heater=2C but Transport Canada does. You also need an ELT and First Aid kit . You can take a look at my Skydrive heater installation. But can't you fly it on the American registration for a while=2C like a yea r=2C it gives you time to make any mods. Karl From: rambug@gmail.com Subject: Europa-List: Firewall material vs Canada "fireproof material" airw orthiness requirement Hello to you all I'm well progressing on my way to importing an Europa "classic" from the US A. I have had a few chats with the ppl in charge of inspections of amateur-bui lt aircrafts at Transport Canada (http://www.md-ra.com) about their require ment for the firewall be made of a "fireproof material"=2C like stainless o r galvanized steel. However=2C he also stated that I could use any other material that has been used on any other Canada-airworthy Europa ! So=2C the question to all CANADIAN Europa owners: what is your Europa firew all made of ? Also=2C do all the Canadian Europas have carb heat on their Rotax engines ? If so=2C which origin ? My 912 currently does not have one... Regards=2C Luc

requirement Wow, I didnt expect a full year delay from import to Canadian airworthiness... At least, it does seems like the firewall wont be an issue. As for the carb heat, looks like a minor job if using that Skydrive technology. What about the gascolator requirement ? Anyone been able to get away with only fuel drains at the lowest point in the fuel system ? Finally my wife asks about the cabin heat. I know that N202Y doesnt have cabin heat; the guys down South say it's a warm cabin... Is that the case ? Would it be required if I wanted to fly in ~ 0C ground temperature ? Any way to easily fit this in a Classic with R912UL ? Regards, Luc On Tue, Jun 22, 2010 at 21:02, Karl Heindl <kheindl@msn.com> wrote: > > > As dave says, the firewall shouldn't be a problem. We have a slightly bent tail spring which we need to replace. Any clues on how to get the old one out. The retaining bolt is easy, but as to removing the epoxy at the base of the rudder ? Any thoughts would be appreciated. John Price. G-SHSH [Rolling Eyes] Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=302172#302172
