Hi John.
Heat up the tail spring. The epoxy will let go surprisingly early!

We have a slightly bent tail spring which we need to replace. Any clues on
how to get the old one out. The retaining bolt is easy, but as to removing
the epoxy at the base of the rudder ? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

John...just a thought (no experience) but I thought that the Redux
softens readily w/ heat...why wouldn't you just use a heat gun?...but
do wait for more experienced hands to weigh in.
Good luck,

Greg,
For your second point, the uni goes over front, bottom and rear, and to the top
of both bulkheads. The rather cryptic description in fact says it should be BETWEEN
the the two sides and NOT lapping on to them.
As far as putting the large bid in in one piece, forget it. With a lot of force
you may be able to squeeze it all in but all you will get is a heavy ball of
resin rich fibre which contributes little strength. Start on one side, smooth
it out and then you will find the bid starts bunching up on the other side. Cut
in and take one or two triangles out. Make sure the ends overlap well and you
will have a neat and structurally sound lay-up with the fibres seated properly.
That said, it is still the most horrendous job of the build (so far..)

Hi John
Like others have mentioned, Redux begins to soften ~ 160F, thus you can
get it to soften enough to remove without hurting Epoxy resin on fuse.
Curiosity question, was your spring bolt bent also? What sort of trauma
was needed to get spring to bend?
I incorporated a piece of
metal that helps prevent bolt from bending.
See about half way down
page:
http://www.europaowners.org/forums/gallery2.php?g2_itemId=27732&g2_page=2
Don't want to make spring too stuck to fuse, that way not only
would spring bend but you could damage fuse which is much harder to
repair. That said flight Crafters said it dosen't take too much of a
swerve to bend bolt.
Thx.

Thanks for pushing me upp, again!

They will be, during the next weeks (that is my honest wish!).
I asked today my Wife (Marke!) just to lift the doors upp and here you
are - are you happy now Bob?
Later you will get more detailed photos about the secrets inside if you

BTW,
My wife and me will have the 10th Wedding Day 15th of August 2010.
It is The Sunday, of course!
Accidentally, we will have here (EFTP) same time the biggest air show in
the country including a real flying Spitfire and so.
Sunday, 6=B4clock pm (1500 zulu or GMT time) we will have here at EFTP
*** a little*** festival.
That is partly for our 10th WD, also partly for that new hanger (hangar
I would like to write).

That is why you ALL (I mean you all in the the EUROPA community) are

Just let me know if you are coming just 4 weeks before (that is VERY

All the food and some beers and just a drop a wine will be free.
During that time in Finland, all the beautifully flying boys will find a

I will accommondate all the possible Europa Female Pilots - I am sure
they all are pretty.

Europa Community - All of You !
I wanna share this moment instantly with all of you around the globe.
I am writing this time 0330 AM - I came just from The EFTP.
Last time when I have been airborne and a pilot was 13th of November
2009.
That was because OH-XRT (and many other poor planes here) lost her
hangar space in The EFTP.
That was a serious business!
I decided to make my own hangar and I call it The Europa[e] Hall !
That is why I have been really busy during last weeks!
It was completed tonight! Look at the attached photo! If you check it
carefully, you will notice Europa=B4s official logo is slightly modified
in this case!
Inside - there is a little bar, grill, service shop, alarm, safety
cams via internet recording ability, some aviation gizmos, nose artist
girls and other necessary equipments.
It=B4s size is just compact 9 x 12 m2.
My wife certainly planted some rose bushes beside it!
Because it is on a little hill, it is equipped also with an electric
tow machine to pull RT inside (she is so fat lady that even for me it is
almost too hard task to pull her inside manually).
I trailered today OH-XRT from her home hangar from Lempaala to The
EFTP and had also my first aviation session today.
I was thrilled - I have been grounded over seven months. Could I fly
any more (that wild tail wheeled mono)?
Rotax fired upp immediately.
Everything was ok.
I taxied about 15 minutes and it felt so good!
After I did some touch and goes and it felt also good or even better
if possible.
I did some of my best landings - Europa is really landable from the
first touch to the final stop using less than 300 metres runway.
After that I had a local flight 50 minutes.
That seven months meant nothing - I felt as I had been airborne
yesterday.
Obviously flying Europa has gone to my backbone and more or less to my
ass too!
I feel COMPLETELY happy now!
You there around the globe and still building: build it fast - just do
it and complete it ! What sooner that better - it is really worth of it!

Luc,
The skydrive installation is a minor job, if all goes well, but the
tolerances are very tight and when I did mine I was very relieved
that the
unit did not get stuck half way.
I don't think you need a gascolator, but would recommend fitting one.
If you go back in the archives, Bud posted an item on a heating
system, but it will take some work.
I've tried taking heat from the muffler and the exhaust pipe, but
with little success. My aircraft is pleasant to fly with the temps
around zero C, provided that it is
sunny. Generally I can't get my plane out of the hangar once the snow
flies, so I've decided that long Johns and battery heated socks are
all I need if I can get out of the hangar.
You will not get much heat off a 912, my 912S runs cool.

Subject: | Re: Baggage bay strengthening for gear |
Jeroen,
Geez!!!! Rather cryptic doesn't begin to describe the manuals
statement...or rather miss-statement. I just checked the latest PDF of this
chapter and they certainly don't say 'between' sidewall to center tunnel
(though I agree..that is probably what they mean-but who could know?). In my
interpretation, they say essentially to cover the rear bulkhead (i.e.. rear
'face' only) 'from' sidewall to center tunnel. So I think someone should
change the description in the manual if we are to get out of it what seems
to be the better way to do it.
Intuitively, it makes a whole lot more sense to me, to run the 'uni' on the
front, bottom and rear faces of the gear box....than to just run it on the
rear face only. That MUST be what the manual is trying to say. It seems that
would have a tendency to strengthen up the box to lateral forces imposed
against it, of the type that might happen by the twisting of the gear legs,
when doing a landing in which the aircraft was not quite lined up with the
runway.
Thanks so much, Jeroen! If you had not spoken up, I would have done this
ply incorrectly.
Now the ugly question. How many others did not interpret the manual
correctly? Not meaning to spread fear here, as it seems the boxes have
handled a lot of abuse, and the gear legs tend to fold before the box
does....but for those that didn't interpret the manual correctly (as I would
have done), better watch those crabbed landings to get the aircraft oriented
back to centerline before touchdown! Comments? Then again, don't we good
pilots do that anyway? :)
I look forward to getting this most horrendous job of the build finished.
Regards...and thanks again,
Greg

y an Andair or equivalent quality gascolator is also the only sensible way
to go, really you need two gascolators, which is expensive, but I would go
with one and a Purolator one in the reserve line. Then it is easy to check
for water and muck before every day's flying. which (other people's) experi
ence tells us is a vital action.=0AGraham=0A=0A=0A=0A=0A___________________

Raimo,
I dearly wish I could come join you. Finland is high on my list of
places to visit. I feel like I have some very good friends there. But
not this time. Perhaps next year if things go well. I would like to
make the next Europa Club Annual Meeting if it is at all possible. Then
the next visit to that part of the world would be Finland.
Best wishes,
Bob Borger

Thanks Graham,
It will take just 2 hours from London (Stanstedt by Ryanair) to Tampere
Finland - not 24 hours!
>From Tampere to Ivalo it some times takes 22 hrs or even more.
But as you well know - We are here near by Tampere!
So, welcome, easily!
