One of our Pierburg electric fuel pumps has failed. Other than Lockwood, has anyone
found a supplier in the US?
Thanks

Hi Jim
Sorry can't help much with you finding a pump (perhaps Jason Parker has one?),
curious did pump burn out?
If it did burn out, or if is just not putting out enough volume, was or is the
prefilter the culprit?

Ron,
The pump has electrically failed. An ohm meter across the terminals shows open.
The filter is perfectly clean.

Thank you for ringing my bell about instructions.....it took me awhile but
I finally remembered where I safely filed the paperwork. After reading the

Mike,
FYI: I have the same prop on my 912 S Europa. No safety wire no
loctite. I remember when I bought my prop there was an article in one
of the magazines about this prop and the ingenious lock washers they
use. I now have over 150 hours on mine and every time I check the
torque it's still perfect. I suppose the next time I have it off I'll
add some thread lock but if experience is the teacher it's probably
not needed.

Good morning Jim,
Yes, I am using the prop extension. I swapped that out early on in the bui
ld. I remember safety wiring down inside was a bit of a reach. But I would
appreciate a copy of the instructions to make sure I not missed anything.
I also think that a call to Jim would cover all my concerns. This will al
so allow me to make initial contact with Jabiru since I purchased my engin
e and FWF kit from SunCoast in Florida and they are now dead and gone.
Thanks for all you help.

you using the prop extension? That is the key. If you are not, you may
want to talk to Jim before you proceed. I believe it is a requirement fo

Subject: | Re: 914 Fuel Pump |
Jim,
Just had to replace mine. Airwolf, and Lockwood were the same price I
got mine as a dealer for $364 if memory serves. I think it has platinum
plating or something.
By the way, your aluminum tape between the oil and glycol coolers works
terrific. Glue is sticking well now for over a month and is a huge time
saver. Good idea.
Best to Heather and Buddy...
Bud

Ron,
The pump has electrically failed. An ohm meter across the terminals
shows open. The filter is perfectly clean.

Subject: | Use of Choke Starting the 914 |
Gidday,
I am trying to work out whether my choke should be near the throttle on the top
of the tunnel, with the added advantage of keeping cables all running together,
or whether there might be some argument in favour of putting it on the LHS
of the panel, near the ignition key? I am concerned that the bends required for
the bowden cable might be problematic on the LHS and in behind the panel, but
I was thinking to be able to operate it with my left hand whilst starting might
be a good idea. The problem is, I don't know how to start the 914, whether
there is any need to play with the choke, or just set and forget. So, has anyone
put it on the panel on the LHS, or is this just a dumb idea?

Tony,
I have a 914. I find that you need the "Choke" (actually a starting carb) whenever
you cold start the engine. Master on, main fuel pump on, Pull full choke,
throttle completely closed, punch the starter and in a couple blades it's running.
Then, as the engine warms up and speeds up, you slowly ease the "Choke"
in to maintain idle between 1800 and 2000 RPM. By the time it's warm, the
"Choke" is off and you are ready to go.
I have my choke just below the throttle since it is a throttle of sorts operating
the starting carb. It's handy there and easy to route the control cables.
I don't think I'd want the "Choke" over near the starter on the panel, but you
may find things work better for you that way.
Check six,
