Photos were taken during construction. When the wheel is latched up, the undercarriage lever is free in the up detent with no load on it whatsoever. Lay-up three plies of 'bid' at +/-45, lapping a minimum of 2.5 cm (1") onto each part. " It doesn't seem clear to me whether the areas to be reinforced include the bottom edge of the forward face of the rudder-pedal support flange as well as around the sides and top of the tunnel. It could be argued that the forward face of the rudder pedal support flange is abutting the firewall but I would have expected an explicit call-out of that. So is the BID reinforcement required only around the 3 edges of the tunnel, or out across the footwells too? Next, the BID strips at the rear of the cockpit module. I assume they just go transverse, and are not taken around the corner into the central tunnel. The build manual (p17-6) does not say how wide these strips should be, but I assume that a 1" (25mm) overlap on each surface, as for the CM-to-firewall strips, is OK. Not sure what others did, but I can report on my version of what the manual meant to say. In the front, I only used the plies at the top and sides of the tunnel only, not at the rudder pedal flanges (only 3 areas of ply). The lower end of the side re-enforcement plies, stopped at the start of the upper part of the rudder pedal flange. In the Rear, they were kept transverse, and the bid strips stopped at the corner before entering into the tunnel, though it would only add strength at a slight weight penalty. I assumed the manual meant 1" overlap in the rear as well, though mine were a bit over 1" overlap, to clear the flox corner. Regards, Greg ____________________________________________________ --> ... Kingsley, As you know, I admire your work...in this case, I admire your analysis which anticipated the problem...of which I've been blissfully ignorant. Do you have a pix of the pivot point along the side of the tunnel? Fred, Attached are the only two photos I have that may help. I was a little fortunate with this project because I had at my disposal, the drum brake actuator from a Blanik sailplane. The shaft that goes through the bush has a spline on one end and a removable square piece on the other. The arm you see attached to the spline is the original part off the sailplane so all I had to do was extend it. The alloy bush is home made of course and goes right through the plywood stiffener. I made square holes in the latch arm and the doubler to fit over the square on the wheel well side and stuck it all together with glue. (to think I didn't even know such stuff as Redux existed before embarking on the Europa!!) The square piece is discernable in one of the photos in my last post just below the split pin that wasn't split in the photo ! Twould be a breeze for you Fred !
